I met Steve through a shared love of rafting, science, and sometimes bad jokes. River trip permits just went out a few weeks ago and I hesitated when I saw his name still on my list of folks to invite. I'm happy for the time we were able to share together and the many laughs. Float on, brother.

Steve and I met our junior year of high school after his family moved down to Kentucky from Michigan. He was very smart and had a great sense of humor and we became friends right away. We both went to Eastern Kentucky University and lived on the same dorm floor. We also pledged SAE together that first semester. I have so many great memories of those years and Steve was a big part of many of them. We called him “Joker” because of that absolutely stupendous ear-to-ear smile of his. I still haven’t met anyone with a better smile—and he rarely went anywhere without it. I was saddened to hear of Steve’s passing. It just doesn’t make sense that someone who brought so much joy into this world should die so young. I will miss you but treasure the memories. Rest In Peace brother.

Steve was my very first college roommate and we shared many rooms and great times over the years. One of the smartest guys but humble, extraordinarily kind and generous always. He was a gentleman in every sense.
I’m saddened and filled with fond memories of a great human.

Steve was one of the most genuinely kind and compassionate souls I have ever been fortunate enough to consider a friend. While it has been 30 years now since we last crossed paths, I have always remembered him with much affection and spoken of him often. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

My sincere condolences, Steve was a great person & true gentleman...
Steve was one of the first people I met when I rushed at the SAE house... and immediately one of my (& others) favorite people in the fraternity.
Steve was good natured, fun loving, ever- smiling good soul that is always a pleasure to talk to, hang out with and... be a brother with.
Knowing Steve even a short time, I know that his boys either inherited this trait, or know & appreciated it in their father.
Rest in Peace, my friend & brother... you will be missed, but already brightening the next life for those there and those to follow...

Steve and I worked together for many years, in several companies, and under several scientific missions (environmental services, food/vitamin/nutraceutical and pharmaceutical laboratories). Steve was always creative, energetic, an amazing scientific problem solver and all with a great sense of humor. He was a big presence and his passing is a big change for all of us.

I'm shocked to say the least. I knew Steve very well, he was my boss for a few years when I worked at Chromadex. I still can't believe he is gone, he will be missed by the entire scientific community and most of all by his friends.
