I worked at the bowling alley in East Denver and Joe and I became great friends. I recently ran across a Birthday card he gave me when I turned 30 back in 1981. He was an awesome guy and I'm sorry to hear of his passing . He always brought me candy every Sunday when his league bowled. A very special guy he was.

I am sorry to hear about Joe's passing. I looked forward to his annual birthday call--as consistent as that from a family member. Joe's presence was such a reminder of how much simple interactions can make others feel special.

Joe and his Dad were my patients at the VA Hospital over many years. He and his Family were very kind to my 3 sons as they grew.
Joe kindly attended my Mom's Funeral and my family are very sorry we missed his !!
A Great Guy, proud Denver East alum/ ballplayer, and Veteran who 'gave back' to the VA with welcome donations.

I have known Joe Silver since I was a little boy. He knew my Dad Willie really well, they played softball together for many years. Joe would often stop by our house to visit. He was such a kind and gentle man and I always looked up to him. He was a great softball player and ran the bases like a rabbit. He was quite a guy and I am sure he is going to be missed. A friend, Larry Woog

My sister in Denver sent me the news today about Joe's passing and my heart is truly saddened. I met Joe over 50 years ago when I was in high school (right across the street from BMH-BJ). I was introduced to Joe by Mike Fistell (Oscar's boy) and I began buying auto parts from Joe. Over the next several years, I did a bit of work for Joe, continued our car parts relationship, and Joe and I eventually became good friends.
After I married and moved to California, Joe kept in touch with his legendary birthday and anniversary "cards" -- actually, thick packets filled with humorous articles and good wishes (I believe Gigi did all the envelope stuffing!). Joe even took to calling my wife and me on our birthdays and anniversary and it was always a treat to hear, "Dave, this is Joe Silver in Paradise, Denver, Colorado." Joe's desire to stay in touch survived our moves to France, Kansas, Belgium, and back to Kansas. Joe was as faithful a friend as one could want. We took every opportunity to see him on visits to our families in Denver.
My memories of Joe are of a deeply generous man, devoted to his family, committed to the ideals of our common humanity, and one of whom it can truly be said, "His hand was always open." I last spoke with Joe in 2016 and tried to see him last summer in Denver, but he was in the hospital going through some tests.
Joe, Nancy and I will miss you sorely. Your presence and friendship meant more to us than gold. We will be standing shiva in our hearts with your friends and family this Sunday.
God bless your family during this time of loss and reflection.

I was sad to read of Joe's death.
He and my parents, Virgil and Marilyn Jester, were friends for decades.
Joe used to call both of them on a pretty regular basis just to chat and see how they were. Joe was always upbeat and positive when he called. My Dad got a kick out of Joe's saying: if you wake up on this side of the grass, it's a good day.
Both of my parents are deceased; my Dad died in February 2016 and my Mom in March 2018. I hope the three of them have met up again and are reminiscing about the good old days in Denver.
On behalf of the Jester family, our heartfelt condolences and caring thoughts are being sent to Joe's family. He was a wonderful man and his thoughtfulness and concern for our parents will always be remembered.
Peace Be With You.
