Obituary of Judithe Cohen
Judy Cohen passed away in Aurora, CO on January 8, 2020, succumbing to the ravages of Alzheimer’s on her mind and body. Judy was born in Philadelphia, PA, November 10, 1939, the daughter of Max and Thelma Gordesky.
Judy is survived by her husband, Jay; children, Matthew Cohen of Houston, TX and Jennifer of Centennial, CO; four grandchildren; and sister, Merle Molish of New Port Richey, FL.
Completing her education in the Philadelphia public schools, Judy graduated from Overbrook High School. Following graduation she studied medical technology and on completion of training worked for doctors at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania.
During Judy’s working years, she loved travel. One trip was to Charleston, WV, where she met Jay. A few months later, they married, and she dedicated 16 years as a fulltime mother and homemaker.
When she and Jay believed the children to be mature enough without a fulltime mother, Judy entered the workforce again, first as a temporary employee. This led to an assignment with Friendswood Development Co. in Clear Lake City, TX, where Judy worked her way up to permanent employment and eventually manager of their Home Finding Center. While working for Friendswood (later Lennar), Judy was an affiliate member of the Bay Area (Texas) Women’s Council of Realtors. For several years, (she has three Affiliate-of-the Year trophies over a period of six years) she was editor of the organization’s newsletter. During her tenure as editor, the chapter won two best in Texas and one best in the nation newsletter awards.
Judy was forced to medically retire when she was diagnosed with and treated for esophageal cancer. In retirement, she developed an interest in quilting. She was a member of the Bay Area (Texas) Quilt Guild and was a regular entrant in their quilt shows.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00PM, Sunday, January 12, 2020 at Temple Emanuel. 51 Grape Street, Denver, Colorado 80220.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Judy’s memory may be made to Alzheimer's Disease Research, 22512 Gateway Center Dr., PO Box 1950, Clarksburg, MD 20871-1950.
