Although I didn't know Steve Farber as an adult, I was well-aware of him and admired his many accomplishments, successes, and contributions. I was particularly thrilled when he was instrumental in bringing Barack Obama to Denver in 2008!
The Steve Farber I knew was Stevie Farber, a boy my age who lived down the block from me on Raleigh Street. Growing up in that west side Denver Jewish neighborhood in the 40's and 50's was a uniquely wonderful experience, especially on Raleigh Street. I'm sure it helped shape Steve's appreciation for and commitment to community. And even as a kid, he had that rare gift for being personable and making each person he knew feel special. He was aware of my middle name and always called me "Carol Lou". No one else did that.
I don't think anyone who grew up in that neighborhood at that time will forget the "Raleigh Street Dances". Every fall on Rosh Hashanah, Raleigh Street was blocked off to traffic and we celebrated the Jewish New Year with food, friendship, and dancing. People came from all over the city to join in and Stevie Farber was often at the center of the festivities, leading the Hora.
Summertime was especially fun on Raleigh Street. We kids played endless games of hide-n-go-seek every night. We felt free and safe and played well until after the sun went down, when our mothers finally came out on porches to call us home to go to bed.
So many kids! To name just a few...Hank Hyatt; Jack Hyatt; DeDe Brown; Bobby Koff; Bonnie Goldberg; Stevie Goldberg; Sherwin Rosen; my brothers, Mickey and Ronnie Berger. Many of them have passed away, but the memories will remain. And to me, Steve Farber will always be Stevie Farber, a Raleigh Street kid!

I am thinking of you and your family sending caring thoughts and prayers. We were teammates at North. Many fond memories. Steve was a born leader he was always there if you needed him. I have thought of Steve over the years as life took us our separate ways. I will miss him. May he rest in peace. Fellow Viking, John Daly

In high school, if we had taken a vote of the person most likely to succeed, it would have been Steven Farber. Enough said.

I mourn the communal loss of Steve Farber, even as I share my gratitude for all he meant to me during my career. Steve was one of a handful of “go-to” people who I consulted on every important professional decision. I so respected his balanced, fair minded opinions, wise counsel and his concern for me personally, whether it involved some new opportunity or just wanting to make sure I got things right. We worked together with others in encouraging people in the community to take a more active role politically, regardless of party. I will miss his friendship, but I will always appreciate his contributions to Colorado and the nation. My condolences to the family and may his memory be for a blessing.

As a 22-year-old, first-year, law student from Pennsylvania , I was wandering aimlessly through the halls of the Fleming Law School looking for a lecture hall on the first day of classes. That was in September 1965. Three boyhood friends from North Denver came to my rescue and showed me the way. One of them was Steve. He was personable, friendly, and helpful and welcomed me into both his circle of friends and Denver family. Those traits were his hallmarks qualities and continued for more than five decades later. I will miss you, Steve. On behalf of my wife Robin and our entire family, may you rest in peace. David Savitz
