Dr. Lewinsky was one of my professors in the Neurology department. He was unforgettable for his openness to those he taught. I had many ski adventures with him and his humor leavened the experiences. His intelligence was at the highest level but carefully meted out. He was a classic gentleman.

Ed Lewin was my father-in-law. At the outset, I discovered that he was brilliant, had an encyclopedic mind, and expected no less of his offspring, Cindy and John, both of whom had not disappointed him. But here I was, under Ed’s microscope; I was intimidated and worried about my potential for winning his approval. Fortunately, it turned out that one of Ed’s many fascinations was science and the universe, and when he learned that my physicist father had an office at Bell Labs four doors down the hall from Arno Penzias, the “Big Bang” guy and one of Ed’s heroes, he decided to welcome me, a mere public interest lawyer, despite my lack of scientific credentials.
Over time, we relaxed in one another’s company, and I discovered that Ed was not just smart, but also a genuinely thoughtful, generous and caring person whom I loved and greatly respected. I will miss him.

Ed was truly a warm, kind, dignified, and generous man. I always enjoyed his and Jackie's legendary holiday parties, as well as getting to know the rest of their terrific family. For sure Ed could blow you away with his knowledge - I'm a high school coach, and whenever we talked about teams, he could instantly tell you their nicknames - but it was always in the context of taking genuine appreciation of who you are and about your interests. I'm sure that translated well in his medical bedside manner as well. He will be greatly missed. My condolences to the entire family on the loss of such a special man.

I personally did not know Edward but, my thoughts are with the family. I hope you can find comfort where I too have found in the past, 2 Cor. 1:4 “Who comforts us in all our trials so that we may be able to comfort others in any sort of trail with the comfort that we receive from God.”

My grandfather was a wonderfully kind man who was intelligent, accomplished, and believed in science. His intelligence was impressive and also intimidating for practically everyone. The information he could recall was inhuman. To this day, I have friends who tell me that he is the smartest person they have ever met - and they met him at 84 years old.
My grandparents were married for 65 years and loved each other until the end. A few years ago I asked him what the secret was to being married for so long. His response was: Inertia
He had a great sense of dry humor that would come out of nowhere. I remember a few years ago he gave me advice on my "first husband." Surprised, I asked him how many husbands he thinks I should have and he calmly responded: "3. I think 3 is a good number." So far I'm 0/3
He passed away on the 2nd day of Passover and the last meal he ate was the matzo ball soup my grandmother and I made. He was loved and with family until the very end.
He will be missed and always loved.

Thinking about the profound impact Dr. Lewin had on my life.... As the father of my best friend growing up, he was a constant presence in my childhood. I will be forever grateful for his patience, soft spoken humor and compassion. To Jackie, Cindy, John and Becky, my family’s most heartfelt condolences.
