Obituary of Sherwin Yoelin

February 25, 1935- April 13, 2020 Sherwin Yoelin, 85, passed away on April 13, 2020 in Encinitas, California due to heart failure. He will be buried at Golden Hill Cemetery in Lakewood, Colorado where his parents and grandparents are also buried. Sherwin was born on February 25, 1935 in Denver, Colorado and attended East High School. His family roots were extensive in the Denver area with deep ties to the Hebrew Educational Alliance. He attended the University of Oklahoma where he met his future wife, Rochelle Yamin, another Denverite, in Dallas at the Texas-OU annual football game. Sherwin achieved a Petroleum Engineering degree with honors and completed his Masters in Petroleum Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines. Sherwin spent most of his career in Southern California developing an exemplary reputation in the oil and gas industry. He wrote numerous technical papers, established a successful consulting business, and became an independent oil producer. His success was driven by the constant focus of making projects better than when he acquired them. He applied the same passion for work as he did with his hobbies including building model trains and growing beautiful roses. Sherwin was recognized numerous times for his technical work throughout his career. He persevered through the difficult times in the oil and gas industry, helping others when he could and choosing to see the best in people that worked with him. While he was not comfortable being the center of attention, Sherwin took great pride in his family and their accomplishments. He adored Rochelle and they were inseparable. They loved to travel and collected items from the countries they visited. One of his favorite places to visit was Jenny Lake in Grand Teton National Park. Sherwin was a gentle, soft spoken, sweet soul. He was extremely humble and never spoke of his own accomplishments or successes. He loved his family and cherished his dogs; always having at least one by his side. Sherwin is survived by his wife Rochelle, his children Corie Ross, Steve (Eileen), and Alan (Linda), and nine grandchildren (Evan Ross, Jessica Ross, Ryan Yoelin, Darren Yoelin, Sam Yoelin, Bryan Yoelin, Amy Yoelin, Amanda Yoelin and Allison Yoelin) and nephew Adam Yoelin and niece Amara Yoelin. Sherwin was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Merritt.
