I was so sorry to hear about Art’s passing. I met Art in grade 8 when we became neighbours when my family moved into the neighbourhood. I would stop for him on the way to school and his mother would send me up to his room where Art was preparing for his Bar Mitzvah and I’d sit quietly while he finished.
He was always fun and generous and good to be with. We lost contact after we started university at different schools.
He texted me last September to let me know he’d reach out when he came to Toronto and I was looking forward to catching up.
RIP my friend.

I have many memories of Art. I mostly saw him when he was either driving to my house to pick up Asher or I was dropping Asher off at his house for Art to take him and Evan to a game. Asher reminded me that he went to "ALL 4 games" with Evan and Papa Art! Football, Baseball, Hockey, and Basketball. The most memorable one for me was when Art took them to a Rockies game and Asher came home with a game ball that he had caught. The crazy part was that Evan caught one that game also! Asher also loved the Broncos game he went to with them and told us that "Papa Art's seats are WAY better than ours"! These games started in about 3rd grade and continued even up until last year. Even with Evan in Toronto and the boys heading for college, they always had a special bond with each other, Sports, and Papa Art.
Sending love from Rana Kark (and Asher)

My heartfelt condolences to Art's family. I had the privilege of spending time with Art at OTHS, our high school in Oakville. I will always remember him as having an infectiously positive spirit it was impossible to ignore and an ability to make everyone he met feel welcome. My recollection of Art would be incomplete if I didn't mention that he was always a mischievous rebel, created a ton of fun, and made our Vice-Principal's job a constant bewildering challenge. Today's world needs more Art.

Art had a way of touching people both their hearts and their souls. There was no kinder person and someone who genuinely cared about people. He treated everyone like they were family and made you feel special. There is a huge hole in my heart that will never be filled and I can say how blessed I feel to have had him as part of my life and that he was taken from us way too soon.

Dear Joanne, my deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family upon the loss of your dear Art. I have such lovely memories of Art from our time serving together on the Jewish Film Festival Selection committee. Art is the person who first recommended me to serve on the committee and for that, I will always be grateful. He brightened up a room with his smile and positive outlook on life. He was truly one of the kindest, sweetist people I have ever known. I loved that he loved movies, the Broncos, golf and skiing-the coolest guy ever.
Heartfelt prayers to you and yours during this time of mourning. Much love, Julie Schwarz

My dearest Kleinstein Family, what a shock, what a tragedy and what a tremendous loss for all of you and for this world. Our deepest condolences. We are unable to accept, comprehend, or come to terms .... We have gathered with kids at Faryl’s cottage on Saturday and quietly cried together. I have never Elly cry so hopelessly.. “The world will never be the same again Dragana”. There is nothing today that can comfort you . How unjust that the best in the world, those we love so much, are taken away from us so abruptly.
I loved and admired everything about Art . He was truly one of the greatest men I have ever met. His thirst for life, and vibrancy was incredibly inspiring . It taught me that it’s not what happens to you, but how you deal with it that mattered. I remember being blown away by Art’s expertise on skis when he could hardly walk. His smile and calmness when his hip was thrown out in the middle of remote Bahamas was shocking. Art was so stoic, So positive, with so much life in him, embracing with strength and laughter whatever came his way. If Elly had to deal with an increment of pain and suffering Art endured, it would have made it to Fox News. With no contest Art was Elly’s and my favorite, and along with him, Joanne and all of the kids. We spoke about you as an ideal family . Elly and I loved hearing Art speak about all of the kids. He spoke with such pride and joy, praising their achievements, admiring their talent, athleticism, reciting their adventures, with such a sparkle in his eyes. They could do no wrong. They were all perfect in every way! I thought how lucky one must be to have Art as a father. Along with the kids Art was always putting Joanne on a pedestal. His love, devotion and softness when it came to Joanne made Elly quite jealous and aggravated him at times. It was exactly the opposite of Elly’s “tough love’ approach. Elly missed having Art in Toronto and constantly criticized him for moving to Denver. For Elly, Art was more than just a friend....he was part of his dearest family, with whom he shared everything in his life . Elly was destroyed today and told me this morning, losing Art is like losing a brother. Elly said that Art had more friends and people that loved him, than anyone he knew. He was a fun, genuine and incredible friend. He made Elly laugh at toughest times. As someone once said ““they don’t make them like Art anymore’”. It is my strong belief that, even if Art is no longer physically with you, he will continue to be present in some intangible way, watching over you, being there when you need him the most, and sharing the joyful events with you . His soul and blood will continue to live through all of you, especially through his children and grandchildren. As we say he was a mountain of person and mountains are forever.
Art loved sports and adventure and we will take him with us in our hearts and minds wherever we go Please consider that you have a family here in Toronto that loves you all tremendously and will be there for you .... With all our love Dragana & Elly

To the Kleinstein family / Mitch,
My condolences on the loss of your dad. It's been a long time but I can remember being on Lake Simcoe and water skiing like it was yesterday. Today, I felt I should note that the Kleinstein family name came up by coincidence. My father-in-law (Braun) told be that Art's parents and his parents (Lester & Gisela Braun) played in a card group for many years and were good friends. They were all from the old country and what amazed me today is how the people that you knew when you were younger are always with you in some way. After we spoke of the Kleinstein connection today, I heard immediately about Art's passing and wanted to express my condolences to the family. Its been a very long time, but our thoughts and prayers are with you today. David & Rachel Gold

With so much death around us, I have tried to stay positive by remembering what I had and have rather than what I lost or did not get. I had the opportunity to share several exciting years (sometimes trying, sometimes exhilarating) with my best friend and shitiff (partner). Our families "came over on the same boat" but we did not grow up together. A mutual desire to get out of our fathers' shadows and "make it" on our own forged a fledgling union that quickly grew into a strong bond that helped us overcome both personal and business upheaval.
Art was the only legitimate A.K. (alteh kukker) that I ever knew; even from his bar mitzvah. He always lived his life on his own terms and never let any thing stand in his way from achieving his goals. Even though he died too soon (by today's standards), he packed a very long and fulfilling lifetime in the years that he had. Saddened to hear he is gone, I try to remember that twinkle in his eye as he is trying to convince me of something and win me over to his way of thinking.
I love you, old friend, and I wish only good health and fond memories to his family and friends, for a life well lived>
