Mike and I attended Warren Easton High School in New Orleans together. We got to be very good friends and had several classes together. We both often brought our lunches from home and we'd eat together on one of the staircase landings. I remember an incident when Mike threw a banana peel out the window into the school yard and we were both summoned to the principal's office. Principal Harry Garland was a pretty tough guy and we were both concerned, but we got away with only a stern lecture. We were much relieved. That was the extent of our high school discipline. It was good seeing Mike at the last Easton reunion a few years ago. He will be sorely missed and long remembered.
