Obituary of Paul Kamensky

Paul Kamensky was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 11, 1943. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois, received a master’s degree in Zoology from Illinois Institute of Technology, and went on to receive a DDS from Marquette University. Upon graduating from dental school, he spent two years in service for the U.S. Health Public Health Service in Ganado, Arizona treating indigenous Americans, where he gained a loving respect for the culture of Native Americans. He then moved back to Colorado where he established a successful dental practice in Denver.

In 1977, Paul was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, thought to be ALS at the time, that would alter the course of the rest of his life. He was told he had six months to three years to live. Despite Paul’s struggles with his illness, he continued to pursue his passions and made sure to live his life to the fullest. His time in Colorado allowed him the joys of skiing, cycling and fly fishing - all of which he mastered as he became an expert in anything he put his mind to. Paul’s love of the outdoors was infectious, and he spent every moment he could in Vail enjoying all the Rocky Mountains had to offer.

Paul is survived by his loving wife, Jill Kamensky, his daughter Abby, his son Matthew (Marnie), his stepdaughters Angela Mara (Timothy) and Robyn Houlihan (Gerard), his brothers Marvin (Judy) and Jerry (Gail) and eight grandchildren: Haley, Zachary, Ethan, Parker, Mason, Nolan, David, and Erin. He adored all his grandchildren, who gave him years of happiness along with more capital to use to bargain with God adding joyful years to his life. Paul revered his parents, Fannie and Frank, and his wish was to be with them when he died.

The return to Colorado for his last few years gave him the views of his beloved Mountains and a deck to soak in the Colorado sunshine. He is finally at peace. Contributions in Paul's name may be made to St. Jude.
