Hilda - So sorry to learn of your Mother's passing. Last year when we were able to do the West Side lunch at Piccolos, she was so vibrant and fun to talk to. Her presence made our gathering that much more special. You must have many fond memories of her that will always be a blessing for you.
Sending love and prayers for your comfort,

Fanny's daughter Helen called to tell me the terrible news. Even though she was 98, Fanny's zest for life and caring spirit made her feel eternal. I am so devastated that such a beautiful light in our world has gone out.
About four years ago, I was driving home from work when I heard an interview with Fanny on Colorado Public Radio. Her story was so compelling, and our 7th grade unit on the Holocaust was coming up. I just knew I had to meet this incredible woman. As soon as I got home, I contacted Helen online, and they graciously agreed to come to my school and speak for the kids. That started a continued working relationship where so many middle school students benefitted from her wisdom and compassion.
But they weren't the only ones who benefitted. Fanny became like family to me. We would get together for meals and social visits, and every time I arrived at her front door, she greeted me with open arms and said, "Welcome home!" She will never know how deeply affected I was by her kindness and love.
Fanny and the Starr family are such beautiful beacons of home, humanity, and promise in an uncertain and often tumultuous world. When there is strife, they bring comfort, and the lives that they touch are forever changed for the better by having known them. Fanny's memory is a blessing, and her legacy will never cease. I send all of my love to Hilda and Helen as they mourn the loss of their beloved mother.

What a beautiful memorial and tribute to a wonderful person, Fanny Starr, today. We first got to know Fanny and Zesa when we brought them to speak at our son’s school, Denver Academy, in the mid 90’s. Their impact on the students, many who we uninformed about the Holocaust, was amazing. The words spoken today were so true about her approach to life and the warmth she extended to all she met and knew. We will truly miss her and that beautiful smile she had every time we saw her. May Helen, Hilda and the entire family keep her memory for a blessing. Baruch Dayan HaEmet. Rob & Debbie Friedman

I met Fanny and Zeza Starr when I was a teaching fellow at the University of Denver in 1986 and called the Anti-Defamation League for a survivor to speak with my class, Sheldon Steinhauser sent the Starrs....and they were such shining stars for me and for hundreds of students down the long years.. After Zesa's death, Fanny, with the great spirit and love that defined her, continued, often with her daughter, Helen, teaching students, answering their questions, and versing them all in "Never Again." Many times she invited crowds of students into her home, sharing stories and photographs, and snacks as well as her great open heart. Many of these students have been writing me, hearing of her death, remembering her with such fondness and gratitude. With Dennis Gallagher, I went with Fanny and Helen to Colorado State University where Fanny addressed almost a thousand students who gave her a standing ovation and and crowded round her to thank and hug her, So many memories down the long years of love and light and learning! Her memory is indeed a blessing, and knowing her a boon. May Hilda and Helen be comforted in their sorrow and grief. . .

For twenty-two years Fanny came to my World Religions class at St. Mary's Academy and shared her story. She gave her heart to her work and would cry as she shared the horrors she went through. It took incredible strength for her to do this every year but still, she would come and talk about her experience in the concentration camp. She told them she felt she needed to do this so they would never forget. Even when Covid hit, she zoomed with my girls so she could continue her mission to tell what really happened in the camps. We loved her and she will be missed. May she rest in peace.

We are so very sorry to hear about the passing of Mrs. Starr. I personally have known her all of my life as a treasured family friend who my parent’s loved. She was a true lady, heroin, and speaker of the truth. Thanks to her, future generations will know the true stories of the Holocaust. She was an inspiration to all that she met! May she Rest In Peace and her memory be for a blessing!
