Dr. Bassow was one of my childhood heroes. I remember my visits to Lutheran and the angst that accompanied each event. However, under the watchful eye of Dr. Bassow, I knew everything would be alright. His understated approach and quiet kindness were soothing to me as an anxious little girl. He is part of my earliest memories and someone I so deeply admired, I was convinced I would one day be a pediatrician. When I moved home to the Denver area in 1993, Dr. Bassow was the obvious choice as my sons' doctor. My only wish is that I could have seen him one last time and thanked him for his influence and lasting impact on my life. Every child should have the medical care and compassion of a person like Dr. Bassow. If that were the case, the world would be a different place. Rest peacefully Dr. Bassow - your wings must span the entire sky!
Love,
Roseyn (Imhoff) Hood

I’m so sorry for this belated sympathy. My brother and I had Dr. Bassow as our pediatrician. He was very soft spoken, direct and to the point. He told you the way it was and honest with our health. I remember when I ate a Brazil Nut which quickly became a medical emergency. It was a Saturday, my mom called the office and said she was bringing me to the office. Dr. Bassow met us there and at the car gave me a shot of epinephrine. That was one shot I was happy to take. He saved my life that day. I also had the opportunity to take two of my three children to him before he retired. We also were able to have Dr. Lisa Bassow as our childrens doctor for a while. He was an awesome doctor and I’m sure you are missing him. God bless!

My parents took us to Dr. B when we were so sick as children. He, and his nurse, Ivy, took such great care of us! My mother called and he came to our house, at least once that I remember. When my own children were born he was our first choice. We were overwhelmed with bills and he took payments rather than add more stress to our lives. My daughter nick named him, "Dr. Pacibassow" ...he laughed and said, " What am I her pacifier? Well I've definitely been called worse!" I was Lisa's patient for a while before our military move. I was there for l, possibly her first cesarean, on my nephew. I remember her in his office, as I grew up, barefoot and giggling. When we were traveling in the military and visited, our children became sick and he had us come in, the week before he retired. He invited us to his retirement but military called. When, as an adult I was sick, couldn't get better, my mom called him. He got on the phone with me and said, "You're still a kid...get your butt down here." I am saddened such a wonderful man is gone. I am blessed to have many memories of him. Andy & I send our love and condolences. Andy & Toni Mott

I am grateful to have worked for Dr. Bassow the summer after my first year in college in the front and back office. Dr. Bassow was instrumental in my path of health care as I watched his intense love for his patients. My dad Carl Streufert also listened to his concerns as a physician with health care changes during the 1960's and 70's including times during the Viet Nam war.
I watched Judy and his love for his daughters. How he loved his family.
Dr. Bassow was also my son's pediatrician as I valued his counsel to first time mothers. I too will remember his piercing blue eyes and bow ties.
My sincere sympathy to all the family

Dr Bassow was not only my children's pediatrician he was also my boss for over 15 years. He was kind and compassionate and always there for my family. There were many sleepless nights that he spent caring for my asthmatic daughter and son who was always in some kind of a cast. Thank you Dr Bassow for your dedication to the families of Jefferson County. You will be missed. Judy, Lisa and Susan you had the great honor to have Buddy be the man in your lives. Love to you all.

Sylvia and I were fortunate to have Sol as our kids pediatrician. He was always there for us, both to provide extraordinary care for our children, but also to console and offer personal attention to distraught parents when a medical crisis loomed..
I also enjoyed the time Sol gave to me as a young hospital administrator, frequently conducted in is "back" office. His counsel was always spot on and offered perspectives grounded in strong personal, professional and community values. His sage advise was delivered with eyes that could penetrate one's soul, lingering in one's mind for days, a reminder of the important principles that framed issues to be resolved in the best interest of patients and community.
Sylvia and I extend our sympathies to Judy, Lisa, Susan and their families.

We have been blessed to have have the Bassow family as neighbors for over four decades. Years ago, when Sol would take Briggs for a dawn walk, our Basenji (dog) would jump out of bed and run to the front window to watch Briggs. Good humans are rare and we will miss Sol but not forget, and we pray that God will bless Judy and family.

Judy and family: I wrote a long tribute to Dr B but it seems to be lost somewhere in cyber space, so the short version is in your lifetime everyone will meet someone who can never be replaced and Dr B was ours. He saved my son in 1967 when he got meningitis then on top of that he contracted encephalitis, first he spent days with us in Lutheran then transported to Children's for approx. 3 months, Dr B was with us nearly every single day. Then again in 1985 my granddaughter was born at St Joes but was not doing well so they took her to ICU nursery with not much sense or urgency, when a nurse open the door and hollered down the hallway (very loud) OH MY GOSH..She's a Bassow Baby. and multiple Dr's and nurses came running. She had a rare version of MD and for the next three months we were in his office at least 3 times a week and in the end days Dr. B and Judy were at our house. You can not find anyone like that anymore. We love and will miss you Dr. B.

Dr. Bassow saved my life in September of 1966.
I was twelve and contracted encephalitis over the summer. He met my mom and I at his office on a Saturday and immediately made the diagnosis and admitted me to Children's Hospital. I went to Children's via ambulance (I was told this by my mom) because in just a few short hours, I went from feeling "unusual" to being extremely ill. I spent a few days in a coma with a high fever and three weeks in total in the hospital, but because of his knowledge, fast action and the team at Children's, I made a full recovery. Dr. Bassow visited me every day. Sounds old fashioned.
When I was a kid, I didn't understand that adults and doctors could be very young. Dr. Bassow was only thirty-two way back in '66!
Thank you Dr. Bassow, and thanks for being kind to my mom in our moment of need. She always appreciated your work and had very fond memories of a most stressful time.
Please accept my deepest appreciation and condolences.

Dear Bassow family, my condolences to you all. Dr. Bassow rounded on my firstborn at Lutheran NICU in '95. His words to me "You are doing a great job, mom" have stayed with me since first hearing them. I quickly transferred my child into his practice from those NICU encounters, after having another pediatrician lined up for months. A change of insurance forced us to leave him. His words literally changed my life, though! My daughter is almost 26 now and thriving and working with children with special needs. I myself became an RN. Dr. Bassow's impact on our lives is something I shall never, ever forget. Blessings and prayers of comfort to you all.

Buddy and Bob McKenzie invited me as a young new pediatrician to associate with their practices in the summer of 1972. Buddy and Judy were most gracious in helping us set up a practice. Later, when we relocated to the west side of town, they offered suggestions about neighborhoods and Jeffco schools, etc.
Buddy was a wonderful mentor and cared a great deal for kids. I always trusted that if one of our patients was seriously ill, and Buddy was on call, then that patient would always get the best possible care. We were friends and colleagues for over 30 years. His impact on Lutheran Hospital and westside pediatric community cannot be measured.
Our deepest sympathies to Judy and their entire family,
Ron and Jean Meyer

Dr. Bassow was the most amazing pediatrician to our 2 children, Caitlyn and Peter. As a new mother, I appreciated his wisdom, candor and humor when caring for our children. I always knew they were receiving the best care possible! Due to allergies, our kids were raised on goat's milk, which Dr. B said he also enjoyed " minus the one or two goat hairs, that is! " They loved hearing that, and didn't feel like they were so different, because if it was good enough for Dr. B, it was good enough for them! He will be greatly missed by us all, and we just wanted his family to know what a special place he held in our hearts! Dr. Lisa has been our family doctor for years now and has certainly followed in her father's impressive footsteps! Thank you Bassow family for your years of service! We will miss our Dr. B. Hugs to you all!

for his humor and practical advice as long as his patients' children have children.
