Now, in May 2023, I stayed at the Mabel Dodge Luhan house and looked at the numerous books authored by Lois that are visible on the MDL house's gift shop shelves. I also learned that she had died 2 years ago. My sincere condolences to the family of Lois.
I encountered the lively Lois about 3 decades ago at the MDL when I was on the staff for several youth programs. That encounter led to me providing 6 photos which were incorporated into Lois's book Utopian Vistas. We stayed in random touch for a while, but that faded over time and geographic separation, as I live in Iowa and the frequenting of the MDL house wasn't simultaneous for either of us.
The bottom line is that I feel the sadness at her loss and extend my remembrance to her family and friends, even now two years after her passing. Her creative and informative books keep her alive as a part of her legacy. Her great spirit has graced us all. thanks, Bob Campagna

I am so shocked and saddened to hear this news. I met your mother at her talk on Mabel Dodge Luhan at The Mound several years ago. I 'traced' her down last year due to research on Fabiola Cabeza de Baca. We enjoyed several chats and emails. We just had our Matanza here at NMHU and we had hoped she would attend, we invited her some time ago. When I didn't see her, I reached out this afternoon and my email bounced. I Googled and found the Obit. I wanted to share our university writer's story on Fabiola. Here is the link.....https://www.nmhu.edu/the-art-of-preservation-amid-great-change-honoring-the-legacy-of-fabiola-cabeza-de-baca/
I hold your family close to my heart and cherish my conversations with Lois.

I was saddened to stumble across this news. My encounter with Lois was brief, during a visit to utopian New Harmony, Indiana, several years ago when I had the pleasure of being the tour guide for the Rudnicks. Lois' enthusiasm and her joy was contagious and she shared that with our little group to the delight of all -- especially me. I have never forgotten her and have read some of her books since then. Her loss will be felt by many. My deepest condolences to you, her family.

I had the absolute pleasure of working with Lois at University of Massachusetts Boston from 1979 until 2000. Although I haven't seen Lois since I left UMB, I will always remember her as a warm, funny, enthusiastic and supportive woman! Her personality lit up the place and she always left a wave of positivity behind her! My sincere sympathy to Stephen and Deborah. Mary (Bonner) Kelly, Donegal Ireland

I always referred to Lois as the Queen of the Universe . I even gave her a crown and became her lady in waiting. When we were together we laughed and wore flamboyant hats. We both knew it was silly, but we didn’t care. It was our way of dealing with a world full of challenges. Lois was free spirited and her intellect has made its mark on the world and on me. She was my dear friend and for this, I will be forever grateful.

We are so sorry to hear of Lois’ passing. The world is a poorer place without her. Though we haven’t seen Lois and Steve for a long time we remember her warmth, fun, vivaciousness and intelligence. We miss her.
