Obituary of Dr. Dell Bernstein
Dr. Dell Bernstein passed away on October 13, peacefully and with his family at his side.
Dr. Bernstein practiced obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) and family medicine for more than sixty years. He was dedicated to the full spectrum of the teaching and practice of OB/GYN, taking care of anyone in need of his help without regard to background or status. He was loved by his patients and respected by his peers. Dr. Bernstein trained in New York and Colorado, and practiced primarily at Rose Medical Center in Denver since the early 1970s. He retired in 2015 at the age of 80.
Dell was born in Iowa in 1935, graduated from the University of Iowa, and attended medical school at SUNY Downstate Medical School in Brooklyn, New York.
He and Jan (nee Kahan) married in 1963. They had three children: David, Rochelle, and Deborah. Dell and Jan travelled extensively, enjoyed opera, films and dancing (they were terrific dancers!), but most of all they treasured spending time with their beautiful family. They enjoyed 58 years together.
Dell is survived by Jan, his three children, David (Lisa), Rochelle (Tracy), and Deborah (Garth), and his six grandchildren. Dell donated his remains to the State Anatomical Board following a tradition set by his mother-in-law, Lila Kahan and dear friend, Margaret Richman. A memorial will be held by the University of Colorado School of Medicine in honor of these and other donations this Spring, which will be open to all.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Feldman Mortuary on Saturday, Nov. 6th at 1:00PM. A Livestream will be available on Feldman Mortuary’s YouTube channel.
Following the Celebration of Life, the family will be receiving condolences at 257 S. Jersey Street, Denver, Colorado, 80224 from 3:00pm - 5:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/txfunds or Planned Parenthood of America.
