Obituary of Maurice Serotta

Maurice Serotta, 97, of Denver, passed at home peacefully with his family at his side on November 8, 2021.

Maurice was born to George Serotta and Manya Beychok on March 29, 1924, in Saratoga Springs, New York.

He was religious, patriotic, and the consummate family man.

He attended US Military Academy at West Point and graduated in 1946. He then earned a master’s degree at the University of Michigan in 1949 and was awarded a Bronze Star while serving in Korea from 1952-1953.

He spent most of his career at Martin Marietta Corporation and retired as a Department Director. After he retired, he attended and facilitated many adult education classes at OLLI. He was an avid runner starting at 67 years old until he was 88. He ran in more than 75 races and won his age group in the Bolder Boulder on his very first race. He served the community on several boards and taught English as a second language.

His favorite hobby was betting on Thoroughbred horse races, “he loved the ponies.”

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Ann Serotta (nee Strasburger) who he married on April 17, 1955; Son, Bob (Mary) Serotta; and Granddaughter, Jordan Serotta.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Nancy Serotta, and brother, Bernard Serotta.
