Obituary of Hilda Newman
Hildie Newman was born Hilda Buchalter to Rose and Mort Buchalter in 1947 in a displaced persons camp in Bad Gastein, Austria after her Polish parents courageously survived the Holocaust. They landed in Denver in 1951 to start a fresh life, along with her baby brother, Eugene Buchalter. Hldie grew up on the "West Side" of Denver, graduating from North High School and attending CU Boulder to achieve a degree in Education and eventually her Masters in Social Work from the University of Denver. Hildie's life was altered by the sudden and tragic loss of her brother, Eugene, when he was just 25 years old in 1976.
She is survived by 3 children and 4 grandchildren, and her very devoted partner, Ralph Costantini. David Newman and Marie Makinano, Joanna McFarland and Mike Mcfarland and their children Jackson and Sam, and Jessica Newman and Courtney Cuff and their children Jasper and Griffin. Her family and close friends meant everything to her, and we will honor her legacy by remaining close and connected.
Hildie was a passionate reader, learner, and a gifted therapist. Her desire in life was to make this world gentler, kinder and more empathetic. Her private practice was thriving until the end of her life, as she used AEDP therapy modalities to help her clients as a therapist. Closing her practice was a difficult step to take as her illness intensified, because she felt so fulfilled and effective at that work.
She fought her breast cancer with spirit, bravery and soul, using her brilliant networking skills and connections to amass a multi-faceted team of doctors and healers around her. While the disease was a tough foe, she left this earth feeling so loved and connected to family and friends, and felt truly fulfilled.
