Obituary of Michael Kappy

Michael Kappy's funeral service will be held at Feldman Mortuary Chapel (1673 York St., Denver, 80206) at 11:00am, Sunday, December 18, 2022. A livestream of the service will be available through Feldman Mortuary's YouTube Channel. Masks and carpooling are appreciated.

From Public Health Service to Professor Emeritus, Michael pursued a career in child advocacy that spanned 50 years. He was a brilliant, caring, Renaissance man who was a model of kindness and dedication and was loved and respected by many.

He was fair, honest, and straightforward.
Not just loved and appreciated, but admired.

A teacher, mentor and friend who “got” the people part of pediatrics.

He was opinionated, but not judgmental, generous with advice and wisdom, and willing to share his knowledge and his heart.

He brought smiles with his humor and generous ways, entertaining with whimsical drawings and artistic photographs.

Michael was a champion for humanitarian
causes, loved his profession and was
committed to rural communities and cultural outreach. Favored charities for donations are Children's Hospital Foundation, Ukraine Children's Action Project (ukrainecap.org), and Reach Out and Read Colorado.

Michael's surviving family includes: Wife
Peggy Markson Kappy; Son Doug Kappy and his daughters Samantha and Summer; Son Greg (Alice) Kappy and their son Leo; Siblings David Kappy and Ellen (Joe) Suckiel; Cousin, Joanie Weiss; Brother-in-law Jay (Martha) Markson and sons Harris (Anastasia) and Jack (Missy); Jay and Martha’s grandchildren Rowan, Archer, and Zoe. Also survived by members of the Kozatch and Epstein families along with many friends who feel like family.

Michael was a natural teacher who loved history and people. He took practical
approaches to problem-solving, trusted his instincts, and never stopped asking questions until he had a resolution. As a professor and medical practitioner, he was comprehensive in his approach to teaching and explaining complex ideas in understandable ways to anyone who wanted to learn.

He often reminded us, "We are standing on the shoulders of our advocates.”
