Obituary of Renee Koustas
It is with aching hearts that the family of Renee Gass Koustas, 86, announces her passing on January 24th, 2023 after a struggle with cancer.
Renee was an only child, born to loving parents William and Mary Gass on November 26th, 1936 in Denver, CO. Her father co-owned a shop with his brother in Denver and her mother immigrated from Russia when she was young. Renee graduated from East High School and worked in communications at a Denver bank. While working there, she met Tom Koustas, whom she married, and they had a son, William. Renee was a loving mother and faithful wife, married to Tom for 50 years.
Renee was passionate about learning and education. She read a variety of magazines and newspapers from around the world. Renee attended the University of Colorado and, while she did not complete her degree, she worked at it throughout her life. She instilled that same passion in her son and worked tirelessly to help with his education.
Renee also loved gardening and antiques. She enjoyed growing rhubarb in her garden in the summers and eating rhubarb pie. Renee also liked searching out antiques, particularly when traveling. Finding unique pieces and talking to shop owners always made her day.
Renee looked forward to taking her family to plays and on road trips through the country. Renee had a knack for getting hard to find tickets and finding great places to explore on trips. She especially enjoyed the historical sites on the East Coast, particularly Philadelphia and Washington D.C.
Most of all, Renee poured her heart and soul into her family. She always put her family before herself and ensured they had everything they needed, especially her son. She volunteered to help at his schools and often sacrificed her own comfort and needs to help him. Renee also adored her two little grandsons.
Renee is survived by her cousin, Alan Gass; her son, William Thomas Koustas; her daughter-in-law, Erica Koustas; and her two grandsons, Evan and Kyle.
We will miss her dearly.
May Renee always be remembered for her selflessness and be eternally blessed.
