Obituary of Reneé Singer
Reneé Singer was born on November 4, 1925 in Denver, Colorado. She passed away at 97 years old on March 4th in Denver.
Born to immigrant parents from Russia, Reneé was a first generation American. She helped her parents navigate living in this country. She assisted her beloved father Jake in running his tailor shop on South Gaylord Street when she was just a child, writing invoices and balancing checkbooks. She and her sister Sue Lapin were both proud “west siders.”
Reneé was a loving and caring mother to her children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She always had a keen interest in their lives and was supportive of all their successes.
Some called her the unofficial mayor of Cherry Creek - she lived in her condo there for 50 years, and she could tell you about every new shop and restaurant that had opened in the area.
Reneé was fiercely independent. She was a very hard worker and didn’t take anything for granted. She worked many jobs over her lifetime, but her favorites were working for her nephew, Jim Lapin, at his law firm, and volunteering for Jewish Family Service into her early 90’s.
Reneé was very connected to her Jewish faith and was a long-standing member of the Hebrew Educational Alliance. She practiced her Judaism through celebrating holidays with family, keeping Jewish traditions, and giving back to the community.
She is survived by her son, Paul Singer, her daughter-in-law, Nancie Carroll, her son-in-law, Lorne Polger, and her grandchildren, Olivia Polger, Myles Polger and Kim Mathiesen (Mark). Two of her beloved children preceded her death, Cynthia Polger & Kenneth “Kenny” Singer.
Graveside service, 10:30AM, Monday March 6th, Mt. Nebo Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Jewish Family Service in her honor.
