Obituary of Robert S. Meer

Robert S. Meer passed away peacefully in his sleep March 11, 2023. He was 89 years old. Born on November 19, 1933 to Julius and Sarah Meer making him a proud fifth generation Denverite. He grew up in Parkhill, however World War II found the family living in Wheat Ridge, CO. They were able to return to Parkhill where he graduated from East High School. He went on to attend Denver University where he earned both his undergrad and law degree.

Immediately after Law School he joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia. He transferred to Fort Carson in Colorado Springs where he worked for JAG (Judge Advocate General). Upon finishing his service, he moved home to Denver and joined his father’s law firm. He developed a high level of skill and an esteemed reputation for his work in construction law.

He married Ruchille (Ro) Rosenbloom in 1956. Robert and Ro welcomed 3 children; Lauren, Doug, and Jon. Following their divorce, he married long-time friend, Elly Valas in 1975. Robert spent the last years of his life with his partner, Carol Rush.

Robert was the quintessential “Colorado” man. He developed a passion for skiing at the age of 12, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren by dumping them in ski school. He was an avid camper/backpacker, a bike rider who accomplished several organized rides, including Ride the Rockies, The Triple Bypass, and the MS150. He traveled all over the country looking for the best fly-fishing spots. He learned to roller blade and snowboard at the age of 60! Among his later hobbies he developed a passion for testing his limits in the skies. He trained at the Dalhart Army Air Base to become a cross country glider pilot—the same base that trained pilots for WWII. He spent almost every July in Oshkosh, Wisconsin at a huge airplane festival with his brother Jimmy and nephew Elliott.

Robert was always there for his children and grandchildren who knew better than to argue with him! After his son Doug died, he welcomed Doug’s wife Jill as a daughter, not a daughter-in-law. He leaves behind his children; Lauren, Jon (Laurel) and Jill. He had 5 grandchildren: Emily, Ryan (Leah), Holly, Jordy, and Taylor.
