Obituary of Sandra Tenenbaum

Sandra “Sandy” Kean Tenenbaum, formerly of Denver;

Sandy lived a big, bold and beautiful life. She was a true force of nature, the matriarch of her family, and a trailblazer, starting a wildly successful catering business long before women of her generation knew that was even possible - all while raising 4 children.

Sandy was at the nexus of so many Denver celebrations through Occasions by Sandy. The company was - and still is - renowned, garnering numerous national awards and honors. An Occasion by Sandy was always a special experience that included what she called “the WOW Factor.” Ironically, Sandy never learned to cook - her kids would joke that she would use the smoke alarm as her timer.

Sandy was an avid lover of musical theatre and loved to travel the world. She was always up for an adventure. Sandy was most passionate about her family and her 17 grandchildren, affectionately known to them as Mana.

She was born and raised in Colorado Springs, CO. She met her husband Barry in Denver and they married in 1957. They had a terrific marriage for over 50 years until Barry passed in 2009. They were wonderful partners in life and in business.

Sandy is survived by her 4 children: Jay (Linda Seals), Howard (Jodi), David (Andrea), Robyn (Miles Ellenby), her nephew David Kean (Kyle) and her 17 grandchildren.

Sandy and Barry were generous and philanthropic in the Denver community as well as being founding members of Temple Sinai.

Service, Wednesday, 5/3, 11:00am, Temple Sinai, 3509 S. Glencoe St.; A livestream will be available on Temple Sinai’s website. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers (though she did love flowers!), please contribute to Temple Sinai or please donate to a charity of your choice.
