Obituary of Dr. Daniel Rose
Dr. Daniel Rose was born in Denver, Colorado on October 20th, 1947, to his parents Selma and Albert Rose. He graduated from George Washington High School, Wesleyan University in Connecticut, and University of Colorado Medical School. He did his residency in cardiac surgery at New York University.
Upon his retirement, he moved to California to be close to his family. He then embarked on a second career as president of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. His father died of pulmonary fibrosis and at that time there was no known cure. Under his direction, the foundation raised millions of dollars to develop two drugs that are now life sustaining for people with this disease.
Dan was a triathlete until the last year of his life. He always came in first or second because there were only two people in his age group. He loved helicopters, skiing, mountain biking, road biking, swimming, and running. He participated every year in an Israel biking event to raise money for disabled Israeli athletes. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen; his sons, Charles and Will (Christine); his daughter, Ellen; his sister, Carolyn (the late Joseph) Borus; his brother, Dr. Franklin (Cindi) Rose; and his granddaughter, Elaina. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, James.
Graveside Service, Sunday, July 16, 2023, at 9:45am, Emanuel Cemetery within Fairmount Cemetery.
