Obituary of Maurice Mendelsohn

Maurice Menelsohn of Denver Colorado passed away the evening of October 20th; one day before his 84th birthday.
Maurice was born in Belgium to Manfred and Lea Mendelsohn, and immigrated with his family to the United States as a teenager. He attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, where he met his wife and best friend, Vera, whom he married eight years later. Maurice graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from CU Boulder and went on to teach social studies and government.
Friends knew Maurice for his outgoing nature and his wonderful sense of humor. He loved being outside, whether he was hiking, skiing, or camping. His favorite place to visit was Arches National Park in Moab, Utah. He and Vera had adventures together in many of the country’s national parks.
Along with his love of the outdoors, Maurice enjoyed culture in so many forms, from museums to theatre to live music. He especially loved visiting Taos, New Mexico.
For his friendly demeanor and unbeatable humor, Maurice will be missed dearly.
A Graveside service for Maurice will be held on Thursday, October 26th, 11:45am, at Emanuel Cemetery, with a reception immediately following at The Cherry Tomato: 4645 E. 23rd Avenue, Denver CO 80207.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the International Rescue Committee, Jewish National Fund’s Trees for Israel Campaign, or to the National Parks Foundation.
