Obituary of Shayla Abood
Shayla (née Scott) Abood was born in Albany, New York on May 13, 1933, and died in Denver, Colorado, on November 10, 2023.
Shayla was the only child of Louis and Lillian Scott and was raised in Albany and Miami Beach, Florida. Shayla attended Ithaca College and married Barry M. Cohen in 1952. Initially a homemaker, she became involved in the metals industry after her divorce in 1966.
Relocating to Florida in 1973, she pursued interests in specialty metals of stainless steel, aluminum, and titanium. Shayla remarried in 1974, to Theodore (Teddy) Abood with whom she lived until his death. Shayla opened her own specialty metals firm in the late 1980’s, becoming one of the most knowledgeable and recognized women in aircraft specialty metals in the United States, Caribbean, Central and South America. She retired in South Florida.
In 2018, she moved to Colorado to be closer to her many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren residing in the state. She lived at Brookdale University Park Independent Living, where she had an active life with friends and was the volunteer librarian.
She is survived by her long-time partner, Buck Timperio and children: Nissan (Rebecca), Robin, and Russ Cohen, grandchildren: Eliav (Lily) Cohen, Alonit (Jacob) Katzman, Samantha Cohen, and 5 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 18, at 6:30 P.M., MST (Mountain Standard Time) at Congregation Bonai Shalom, 1527 Cherryvale Rd., Boulder, CO, 80303, with live streaming at https://venue.streamspot.com/4f58b8e0
