Obituary of Donald Perlmutter
Donald Perlmutter died peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Born in St. Louis in 1939, raised in Denver since the age of six, Don attended Montclair Elementary School, Gove Middle School, and graduated East High School where he was number 2 on the tennis team and president of the high school fraternity, Pi Tau Pi. He played the trumpet, was in the marching band and started his own band with some high school friends, playing at dances and such. Receiving both tennis and academic scholarships, he ventured to the University of Missouri where again he served as president of his fraternity, ZBT.
Don graduated from the University of Denver Law School and was a member of the law review. He started his career in private practice focusing on commercial law. Don met the love of his life, where else, at a shiva call. Meeting in April, engaged in June, married in October of 1964, Don and Joyce (nee Debber), created an incredible life with three amazing children where he never raised his voice, and then doted on their 8 grandchildren.
Don will be remembered as a sincerely good man where family was everything. He was not only a gentleman but a gentle man. Don played tennis multiple times a week for years until he could no longer play, then he just loved watching it on TV. He was Past Master of Columbine Lodge. He was a dog lover, supported each of his kids’ activities and interests, and even hiked Long’s Peak once.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce Perlmutter. Father of Marty (Mary) Perlmutter, Nanci Perlmutter, and Morey (Kara) Perlmutter. Adoring grandfather of Teddy, Rachel, Josh, Megan, Samantha, Parker, Addie, and Raleigh. Brother of Beth (Joe Miller) Waldinger, brother-in-law of Stanley (Sunnie Saperstein) Debber, uncle of Rick Waldinger, Wendy (David) Carriere, and Max (Lette) Debber.
