Obituary of Arlene Galchinsky

Arlene Galchinsky passed away on March 19, 2024 at the age of 84.  A service will be held on March 22 at 1pm, at Temple Emanuel synagogue, and interment at Emanuel Cemetery, officiated by Rabbis Black and Foster and Cantor Sacks. Live stream on Feldman Mortuary’s YouTube channel.  Feldman mortuary made the arrangements.

Born on October 7, 1939, Arlene grew up in Fort Collins, Colorado, where hers was the only Jewish family, and traced its roots back four generations.  The family moved to Denver when she was 18, and she started college at CU-Boulder.  It was not long before she met Herb Galchinsky, a student at DU, at an outing of Jewish fraternity and sorority friends.  After dating for two-and-a-half years, they were wed on August 20, 1961.  They were happily married for over sixty-two years, with two children Cindy and Michael, and four grandchildren.

Arlene was an interior designer and art director at the JCC, and was active in the Jewish community and in local and national politics.  Her passions included art, travel, reading, theater, and mah-jongg.

She was beloved by a large family and larger circle of friends.  Her nieces and nephews called her Aunty Arlee, as did many others who were unrelated, in recognition of her kindness, generosity, and wry sense of humor. 

Survivors include her husband, Hon. Herb Galchinsky, her children, Cindy (Howard) Sales and Michael Galchinsky, her sisters, Lennie Singer and Janice Storey, and grandchildren Ben (Gauri Nikrad) and Brinna Sales, and Gideon and Rafi Davinsky.  Contributions can be made to Temple Emanuel, American Heart Association, or the  Denver Art Museum.
