Obituary of Marcy S. Baer

Marcy Solomon Baer, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away on May 8, 2024,  after a 5-year battle with Dementia.

Marcy was born in Dallas, Texas on October 4, 1954, to Al and Julie Solomon.  When she was 2 years old, Marcy’s father took a sales job with a national chemical company. His territory included Louisiana and Marcy’s family moved to Monroe, Louisiana (where her mother had grown up) to be close to her grandmother. She graduated from Neville High School (where both her mother and older sister had also attended). After graduating from the University of Memphis with a degree in Elementary Education, Marcy  moved to Florida (where her parents had  retired) and taught kindergarten for several years before moving to North Carolina to work as a Housewares Buyer with Ivey’s.

In May 1987, she met her husband, Bruce Baer, in Charlotte, N.C. at a mutual friend’s 30th Birthday Party. After their marriage in January 1988, Marcy moved to Bruce’s hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina, where she taught kindergarten and first grade in the Cumberland County Public Schools, until her retirement in June 2009.

Rachael Baer, the love of Marcy’s life, was born in November 1989. After Rachael’s first year at Colorado University at Boulder, Marcy moved to  Aurora, Colorado for health reasons (allergic to mold) and the move made a huge difference to her health.

After moving to Colorado, Marcy immersed herself in the community. She was a Substitute Teacher for several years with Cherry Creek School District and kept very busy with her Book Club,  Foodies Group at Temple Emanuel-Denver  and Volunteer Work with Jewish Family Services’ Lunch Box Express Program. Although Marcy was a lifelong fan of the North Carolina Tarheels’ football and basketball teams,  she quickly became a devoted CU Buffs and Denver Broncos Fan.  She loved weekend trips to the mountains, frequent date nights at many Denver area restaurants, and great concerts at Red Rocks Amphitheater.

Marcy’s greatest joy in life was her family. Marcy, Bruce, and Rachael enjoyed many driving vacations across the United States and wonderful Caribbean Cruises. Her true legacy was one of caring for all the people around her, as “she never met a stranger”.

Marcy’s  Memorial Service was held on May 13, 2024 at Temple Emanuel in Denver.

Marcy is survived by her husband, Bruce, her daughter, Rachael Levy (Matt), sister, Cathy Stone, brother-in-law, Don Baer (Nancy Bard), sister-in-law, Lee Anne Baer (Mark Gurvitz), niece, Jackie Nix, and nephews Jonathan Stone, Nick Baer, Adam Baer and Jeremy Gurvitz.

Marcy’s family would like to thank Shalom Park Nursing Home’s entire staff for their caring and diligent attention to the many medical challenges Marcy faced during the last three years of her battle with Dementia.

Contributions in Marcy’s name may be made to Dementia Society of America, Temple Emanuel  Early Learning Center Fund, Beth Israel Congregation (Fayetteville N.C. ) Garden Fund or the charity of your choice.
