Obituary of Richard Sallinger

Richard Joseph Sallinger died peacefully of natural causes on the evening of May 8, 2024. His family is heartbroken and will miss him dearly. Rick was a loving father to his two sons, Marc and Eric, and a devoted husband to his wife of 30 years, Isabel.

Rick was born in Chicago in 1950. He is survived by his brother, Bob Sallinger, who he loved very much. He is preceded in death by his father Henry and mother Jeanne.

Rick spent much of his life traveling the world as a journalist, reporting on stories in every corner of the globe. From war zones to his home in Colorado, he shared reports on television with compassion. Rick was a graduate of the University of Illinois and went on to have a storied career in television news. His time as an international correspondent for CNN based in London took him to war zones in the Middle East and peace conferences in Europe. He met his wife, who was also a journalist, covering the same story in London.

For the past 30 years, Rick worked at KCNC-TV in Denver. He loved every second of it. His work earned him a Peabody Award in 2005, one of the highest honors in television news. His desire to find information and share it with his community helped him become one of the most trusted names in Colorado. He truly enjoyed going to work every day surrounded by his friends and colleagues at Channel 4.

Colorado was home for Rick. He enjoyed taking his dogs, Bentley and Bolt, on long walks through the Rocky Mountains. Being in the mountains was one of his favorite places to be. He loved to ski in the winter and take long drives through mountain passes to see the leaves changing in the fall.

A private celebration of life will be held for Rick in June. Invitations will be sent by his family.
