Obituary of Fred R. Schwartzberg
Fred Richard Schwartzberg was born in the Bronx, New York in January of 1931. He graduated from the Bronx High School of Science. An adventurous young man, he took the train west to Colorado to attend the Colorado School of Mines. While studying Metallurgical Engineering, he met his future wife, Doris Arent. Following graduation, they married and Fred began his professional career with Pratt & Whitney in Hartford, Connecticut, where his first daughter, Merle, was born. He moved to Columbus, Ohio, where he earned a Masters degree in Metallurgical Engineering while working at Batelle Memorial Institute and his second daughter, Beth, was born. His love of Colorado drew him to return, taking a job with Martin Marrietta in the aerospace program and John, his third child, was born. An accomplished metallurgist, he established Rocky Mountain EMTEC, a forensic engineering consulting company. Compassion, sense of humor, love for life and appreciation of all things Colorado were the essence of the man. He is survived by his three children, Merle (David) Ziman, Beth (Mark) Redmiles, and John (Patti) Schwartzberg, grandchildren Charles and Frank Ziman (Yael), Elissa (Josh) Redmiles, and Rebecca and Jacob Schwartzberg and three Great-grandchildren.
