Joel and I became fast friends in the eight grade because of our enthusiasm for Avalon Hill games. Our association boosted my IQ several points. We were the only sophomores to take the College Boards. We shared a gym locker, and we were teammates on the track team. How, Joel, Bill and I were very close-knit. We were together seven days a week - camping, rock climbing, bowling, just cruising - and always talking, talking, talking. Our friendship continued through college. We last met the day after Thanksgiving 1975, but by then we had grown too far apart. I'm grateful to you, Joel. You left an indelible imprint on my life. Steve Smith

My heart is with you in your loss. It was Joel’s love of the blues that sealed our friendship Juna. We will always have that to remember him. He’s with those blues greats now. May the music play on.
