We were standing in line at the raspberry shop in bear lake in 2001 and I was about to go on my mission. I remember Tommy talking to me at length about Rio de Janeiro, Bossa Nova music, and the adventures of mission life .... I got a lot of mileage out of that conversation on my hard mission days. Tommy always showed interest and it felt genuine every time.

We knew Tom and his family when he was a law student at the University of Texas. I remember him as affable and generous. I remember hearing him tell some old stories about how he and Sarah fell in love, and for some reason it stuck in my head when he said the clavicle is the most attractive part of a woman's body, ha. Our oldest daughters played together often in a co-op preschool and a dance class run by Sarah. Tom and Sarah hosted the kids graduation party in their apartment in student family housing. We visited at least once when they had moved on to Dallas and enjoyed the botanical garden. Although we mostly lost touch over the years, I will remember him fondly. My love to the Tippetts family at this difficult time. Wish I could give you a big hug Sarah.

Tom - Uncle, friend, purveyor of wit and wisdom - as with all impressions you made on me, your loss is felt deeply and keenly. I remember fondly and with admiration your ability to hold conflicting ideas and examine them with grace and nuance. I am forever grateful for your gentle but firm guidance to question ourselves, our beliefs, and the world around us. I cherish the memories of deep and delightful conversations with you, conversations where I ultimately arrived at the conclusion that there are no easy answers, but that the joy of being is in the pursuit of understanding. I think you are perhaps the most human person I have ever known.
