Catherine was a fun, giving, bright light in the lives of all who knew her. I was blessed to have her as my big sister. Like our mother, Catherine was a classic beauty all her life. Also like Mom, she was a superb cook and chef. Even when she made something basic like tartar sauce, it wasn’t just good tartar sauce; Catherine made sure it was the best tartar sauce you had ever tasted in your life. She was generous and sweet. When my sisters and I were in elementary school, we had a track meet against the three other district schools. Catherine was a track star in high school and also always very busy with her other activities and pursuits yet she took time off one Saturday before the competition to meet with our group of 4th and 5th graders. She taught us the best way to hand off a relay baton and showed us all the best stretches. She turned us into a team that helped each other and had a common goal. Plus, because it was Catherine, we had FUN! When we won the track meet, I knew it was because of the attention she had given our little group. I will miss Catherine’s smile and the sound of her laughter – especially when she was with her lifelong best friends Pam and Doug W. or her cousin Mary. When she was with any of these dear friends, the laughter that filled the air was truly magical. I will cherish this sound and all my memories of my beautiful big sister.
