Obituary of Nancy Ruth Allen
“Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:” -Proverbs 31:28
Nancy Ruth Allen, 92, passed away peacefully at her home on October 25, 2024 in the company of family.
She was born May 3, 1932 in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to John and Rachel Reynolds. Nancy grew up with great admiration for her parents and love for her siblings. In her later years she would often reflect fondly on her father and his many virtues. She married Jimmie Allen on January 28, 1952 in Lake Charles, Louisiana; they also lived in Lafayette and Baton Rouge. Nancy and Jimmie raised five daughters together. From Laramie, Wyoming to Winslow, Arizona, and many towns in between, she traveled with her family and made homes across the Western United States, before settling back down in Denver, Colorado in 1976. With no previous experience, she filled the role of general contractor during the building of their home in Denver, where she would spend her final days. Throughout the years, her strength of conviction, strength of will, and faith in the Lord were instrumental in keeping their family together. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who could always be counted on as a moral north star and an example of devotion to faith in Christ. She was also a loving mother-in-law who embraced her sons-in-law as her own and was always quick to jump to their defense whenever needed. She enjoyed gardening, camping, and hiking; during her life she reached the summit of 38 fourteeners and 10 thirteeners.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Jimmie Leo Allen; her daughters Nancy (John) Lamb, Janice (Richard) Turner, Lydia (Jim) Campbell, Melissa (Ron) Lacy, and Carolyn (Ron) DeGroat; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Rachel Reynolds, sisters Flaury Joyce and Patsy Rae, and brother John Arthur Jr.
She will be loved and missed by all who knew her. Her memory will be forever cherished, but her loved ones celebrate her much deserved reunion with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A funeral service will be held Friday, November 1, 2024, 9:30am at Southwest Community Church (4001 S. Wadsworth Blvd. Littleton, CO 80123) with light brunch to follow; Interment, 12:00pm at Golden Cemetery (755 Ulysses St. Golden, CO 80401).
