While our friendship with Corky Weily began only a few years ago, in very short order we knew for a certainty that he was one of those rare and special people who enriched our lives such that the measureable brevity of the relationship was quickly overshadowed by the depth of our connection with him. No small part of that stemmed from the shared life experience Corky and I (Steve) had as fellow physicians, both schooled in the 1960s, something that for ineffable reasons can “break the ice” with a new acquaintance in a big hurry. Even absent that, Corky just had a presence that engulfed you in his warmth, a smile that made you feel better just to be sharing the same space with him.
At the same time that we are so profoundly saddened, we are enormously grateful to have been privileged to share what little time we did with him, and we extend our heartfelt sympathy to members of his family, and especially to Natalie, all of whom were blessed to be connected to this wonderful guy.
