Obituary of Morey Shuster

Morey and his twin brother Bill Shuster were born in 1920 in the age of flappers and speakeasies. That was the year that women won the right to vote, gas was 13 cents a gallon and a new car could be bought for $525!   Their father, Hyman, ran a tailor and cleaners shop on West Colfax while their mother, Anna, spoiled the children with love and fine cooking. Morey and Bill could be seen on the weekends delivering clothes by foot all over west Denver - it was 19 cents to get a suit cleaned - they also sold newspapers for 3 cents.   Morey was working at Gordon's fruit stand when he first married his sweetheart, Libby Charney. He went on to work at Miller's Super Markets for 25 years where he worked his way up to district manager. He could still spot the best fruits and vegetables in the store! When National Tea took over Miller's, Morey went to work at Luby Chevrolet where he excelled and won many regional sales awards. He worked there for 39 years before FINALLY retiring at the age of 86.   Morey delighted his children and their friends by balancing brooms on his nose, juggling oranges and making fresh donuts and donut holes. As the scent wafted through the neighborhood kids would come from all around for fresh donuts.   Life took him from the west side to the east side and then to the suburbs. When he wasn't square dancing at Sloan's Lake, bowling, playing golf or chasing around the tennis court, he devoted his time to tending his beautiful garden and growing roses for his beloved Libby. He loved to travel Ports of Call with friends and living the good life in Scottsdale. If you ever needed to find Morey or Libby it was a sure bet you'd find them at Piccolo's or the New York Deli dining with friends!   As a tribute to Morey's love and dedication to his dear Libby, he took great care of her in her final years. When she died his twin brother Bill moved in with him and they cared for each other until Bill died almost four years ago. Shortly after that Morey made his big move up to Heritage Club where he made many new friends while always keeping in touch with his old friends! He spent his remaining years there and died peacefully in his apartment as was his last wish. Special thanks to the team from Denver Hospice for making his transition comfortable and peaceful. And a very special thanks to his caregiver Jenny and his devoted and caring nurses Maria, Edaena and Nestor. Donations in his memory can be made to the Colorado Neurological Institute Cochlear Camp, www.givingfirst.org/cni or The Denver Hospice. Morey is survived by his son Steve (Cathy) Shuster and daughters Sharon Anhorn and Bobbi (Russell) Linscott; grandchildren, Kim (Kirk) Lynch, Rod (Leigh) Shuster, Stephanie (Josh) Smith and Allison Smookler (Scott Moore); great-granchildren Ryan, Kelsey and Jane Lynch; Mandy and Casey Shuster; Lizzie, Logan and Bella Smith. He touched so many lives and will be missed by all.
