My belated but sincere condolences. I was a classmate of Alex's in college, and remember him as a friend and fellow gamer in RPG (role-playing games). Alex was smart, funny and a sincere man whose friendship was something I treasured.
I remember the day I found him toting around a copy of Barbara Tuchman's classic, A Distant Mirror. When I asked why he was reading such a scholarly text, he said simply, "It's a great book!" I borrowed a copy from the school library, and found that he was absolutely right. From then on I regarded him as a wise and insightful fellow.
I didn't know that he had passed away until today when I found myself wondering, "Whatever happened to Alex?" Imagine my horror when I discovered he had died. I am sadder for my discovery, but glad that there is a place where I can share my memories of him. I will always treasure the fact that for the brief time I lived in the area he and I were friends.
