I came to GW in 1991to be in the IB program after teaching at North H S for thirty years. Terrified and wondering what I had done, I arrived at GW scared to death. After a few days there, eating lunch in my room because I knew no one, Barb passed my room and invited me to eat with her and some friends in the lounge. From that moment, I felt as though I belonged and looked forward to lunch everyday. I have been forever grateful for Barb, whose friendship I still treasure. I just learned of her passing through a DPS publication. My year at George was wonderful. I retired along with so many others when we were offered a deal we could not refuse only because Barb figured out that I could!

I remember Barb at the horse shows. She was a good friend of Joanie Farrows and her daughter Kristi and I were friends. Then when I met Patty Savage-Wooters, Barb was her English teacher. So many stories can be told, she spoke her mind and hard a good heart. Barb will be missed by so many. Rest in peace!

Barb has been a part of my life for 12 years. During my very first week of teaching, I was called away for a family tragedy for three days. I had been in the classroom for two days, and was suddenly a mental mess. I had little to no plans prepared, but Barb stepped in and rescued me. She asked one or two questions about what I wanted my students to accomplish, and took it from there. When I returned from out of town, I had additional lesson plans for the upcoming day waiting for me. Barb saw that I was in need, and she took extra steps to make sure I would be okay when I returned to the classroom. She set the tone for my career: her generosity was something I have never forgotten, and have tried to pass along to colleagues throughout my tenure as a teacher. I will remember her fondly, forever. Many hugs to her family.
