Obituary of Alan Levin

Alan Kopel Levin born April 28, 1942 in Peekskill, NY.

Alan K. Levin, Cherry Hills Village; Husband of Anna Levin; Father of Ron (Kara) Levin and Brian (Allison) Levin; Grandfather of Jace, Luke Alan, Sam, Jake and Alexa; Brother of Milton (Pamela) Levin.

Alan was a champion swimmer and diver at Peekskill Military Academy. His team was inducted to the International Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame as the finest high school swimming team in history. During his high school years, he first developed his strong work ethic as a caddy in Westchester, NY at Mohansic golf course.

Alan’s first love was the University of Pennsylvania. As an undergrad at Penn he played football, graduating with major honors in 1964 and he earned a masters degree from the Annenberg School of Communication. After his time at Penn, Alan promised to give back to the University that shaped him in so many ways. He was always hard at work recruiting Colorado scholars and athletes to go to Penn. Alan gave 52 years of relentless service to the University and was a prominent guest lecturer at the Wharton School. He was given the prestigious 2016 Alumni Award of Merit. 

After a brief stint working in New York City, Alan picked up and moved to Denver, CO, where he would spend the next 55 years. In Denver, Alan met and married the love of his life, Anna, and inherited her three sisters as well.

Alan was the definition of a “serial entrepreneur.” He leveraged his tenacity and built five companies over 33 years. No matter what industry he dove into, Alan would always find a way to make a great business out of it.  He came up with an idea that seemed crazy at the time, but is now taken for granted: Why not rent out rug shampooers from grocery stores? And out of this, “Glamorene” was created.

One of Alan’s superpowers was his ability to put a smile on anyone’s face. No matter if you were a complete stranger or a lifelong friend, Alan made people feel like they have known him forever. With an incredible sense of humor, Alan could always crack a joke. While he may have been known for his humor, when things got serious, Alan was always the first one to selflessly help those in need. Alan touched so many lives throughout his time—family, friends, neighbors, and strangers. He was fully committed and invested in everything that came his way, including his love for life. He will be dearly missed. A private graveside service will take place on Tuesday at 9:45am.
