I am so very saddened to hear of David's death. I was David's next-door neighbor growing up. Since I had a much younger brother (Ed) who was David's age, I got to watch him grow up - all of the Litvak and Daves kids could be found in either of the back yards - or front yards - most hours of the day - if we weren't all boating or doing something else as two close families do. As we grew, I didn't get the chance to see much of David for many years. But then, fate brought the two of us back in touch about eight years ago. From our more recent contact, I learned of his devotion to caring for his mother and his doting on his daughters. I learned that the sweetness of that small child I had known was an enduring part of David that stayed with him throughout his life. David faced one invasive medical challenge after another for nearly the last decade, but he achieved what he set out to achieve: to stay alive and be able to continue to raise his daughters and be in their lives as long as he possibly could. I send my love to all who grieve the loss of this wonderful, thoughtful, caring man.

You gave so much to those around you and everyone, (colleagues, students, friends, family, and the greater community) whether they acknowledge it or not, benefited from your influence, your sense of perspective, your wit, your intelligence, and your example.

We are so sorry to hear about David. He fought a tough battle for a long time. His sense of humor and kindness was infectious and it was a pleasure to work with him. We especially enjoyed our time we spent with David and Jackie. The memorial service was beautiful. Our thoughts go out to Jackie and David's entire family.

David and I attended Carson elementary school together. I used to watch him run with his hair flying back in the wind! We would also race and I would beat him every time lol. He really was one of my favorite people during those times. I'm just really taken aback and my heart is heavy. Rest in Peace David Daves; you won't be forgotten!

I played rugby with Dave at Washington & Lee. One evening he came upon me as I was having a run in with the local constabulary. He was calmly able to diffuse the situation and I was released on Dave’s recognizance. While Dave’s action, in itself, was quite remarkable, the fact that Dave came over the next evening to check on me and make sure I was OK was what really demonstrated Dave’s great character. He was a gentleman and a scholar. Rest In Peace, my friend. I hope I have been able to carry your kindness and strength forward in my own life.

My deepest condolences to the family. I was one of the students of Mr. Daves in the English as second language class. He was a great educator and a positive influence on his students. May you rest in peace sir. You will be missed. Again, my condolences.

Dave was the best thing I could have asked for in my career. He showed me what true and exceptional leadership looks like, always putting his staff and students above everything else. Whenever Dave would come into my class to observe me, he never smiled, which made me so nervous that after an observation I asked him to smile a bit so he wouldn't seem as intimidating. He responded, "I don't think you want me to do that." I didn't believe him, until he smiled (with teeth), and he looked like he was deeply pained! Though his smile might not have shown it, Dave was such a hilarious, unique, compassionate, and genuine person that you couldn't help but know that he would always have your back. Dave will be forever remembered for the way he always went up against protocols and procedures to do what he felt was best for our students, always making sure that they were at the center of everything we do. Words can't express how much I admired him and how much his presence will be missed. EGHS is forever benefited from the love that he poured into it, and his dedication will be honored by all of us working to be the best that we possibly can for our students.
