Obituary of David Daves

Born in Denver Colorado, on December 9th, 1966, to Dr. Marvin Daves and Christine Daves (born Crooks), David was a Denver native who lived and traveled globally.  He was a Graduate of Manual High School, earned his B.A. at Washington and Lee University in Lexington VA, and his M.A. in Education at the University of Denver.  David spent several years in Madrid teaching and traveled extensively across Europe collecting adventures and tall tales, the tallest of which were in Greece, Italy, and Spain.

David married Lola Moreno, a citizen of Spain, and had two beautiful daughters, Andrea and Elena.  Though David and Lola separated in 2013 they continued to co-parent their daughters. In 2013, David became the life partner to Jackie Coppola and her son Charlie.

David’s career as an educator began while he lived in Spain, teaching English language and literature at a private school in Madrid.  Upon moving back to the US, he worked at South High School as a Dean, teacher of photography, and coach to the school golf team.   He then became director of the Newcomer Program for Denver Public Schools, which serves students for whom English is a second language. In 2012 he became Principal at Emily Griffith High School.

David was an avid photographer, golfer, and skier.  Though he was an accomplished educator, he would claim that his proudest role was parent to his girls.

David is survived by his life partner, Jackie Coppola; Daughters, Andrea and Elena Daves; and sisters, Elizabeth Daves and Beebe (John) Mesch.
