I can't believe dear Tobie is gone from us. I will always remember the fun times we had when conducting reading workshops all over the state and New England, especially the one in Rhode Island where we got ten out of ten stars from every participant. It was pretty professional, mainly because it had the touch of Tobie (and Bob's graphic art work). She would say, "We should take this presentation on the road, Can!" and I would respond, "Tobie, we ARE on the road!". We would laugh and laugh. I remember the wonderful times we had when getting our classes together on a holiday and planning fun activities for the kids. One year she had several spooky Halloween stories planned where all the kids took parts of characters. We often enjoyed sharing parts of our favorite book or new titles that our students would enjoy. I think back to all of the fun times we shared bonding over kids and grandkids and books. Those are the special times I will always remember and think of her fondly. May your memories, dear family, help to carry you through through this sad time. She may have moved away from me, but not from my heart. Candy Parent

Tobie sounds like an amazing woman. While I didn’t know her personally, I see so many aspects of her living on in her daughter, my friend, Lisa. Her passion to serve through social justice and education, her love for the outdoors, her commitment to friends and family. May her soul be at peace now free from the suffering of the body. May the hearts of her friends and family be filled with joyful memories. Much love.

Stacy, Lisa & Bob,
I was so saddened to hear the news of Tobie passing. We worked together at Smith in Glastonbury for many, many years. She was a great teacher - so dedicated to making everyone's life better. She was always so positive, loving, and supportive - such a wonderful part of our school community. She was very much missed when she retired. And she was a great friend . We hiked and occasionally did cross country skiing. I visited Tobie at the condo in Dillon and where we walked and talked and she listened and always had such great advice! I last saw her in her backyard on the patio when I was out visiting friends in Denver. We had bagels and coffee (thank you Bob!) and she talked about how much she enjoyed living in Colorado - especially being near her kids and grandchildren, and the friends she had made and the activities she loved - she clearly made friends wherever she went! The essence of Tobie - warm, loving, accepting, with that million dollar smile and twinkle in her eyes - Her legacy will live on in all of us. Deepest sympathies to all of you.

I am so sorry to hear that Tobie has passed. She and I started working the same year at the middle school in Glastonbury. More than a colleague, she became a friend, a yoga and hiking partner. I will never forget her beautiful smile, her great personality, her ‘joie de vivre’. She always had a positive outlook and her family was her life. Our lives are definitely brighter thanks to the light she brought to them. My condolences to all of you. May the memories of wonderful moments with Tobie help you through these difficult times.

Tobie has been a dear friend and mentor since we began working together in 2008. Although I have missed her infectious smile since she moved to Colorado, I continued to treasure her sage advice and calming voice. She spoke frequently about her girls and grandchildren, whom I know she love immensely. I send you all my deepest sympathies and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. She is greatly missed but always in my heart.

Dear Stacey & Lisa...I was quite saddened to learn of the passing of your mom. My sincerest condolences for your loss and that of your families. Tobie and I for a short time were family and during that time she was kind and generous, particularly so when she hosted an intimate baby shower at her home before the birth of my only child. She prepared all the delicious treats herself and you girls were both in attendance. It was a lovely and meaningful day and I will always remember her kindness in doing so. Tobie will never be far from you girls and her grandchildren as she is now your very own Angel!
Sincerely, Cheryl Silverstein

Darling Lisa and Stacey,
I'm so sad to hear of your Mom's passing. She was a terrific woman, I met her right beofre she gave birth to you Lisa, and she was overjoyed at being a Mom and having a daughter. She was always so generous with her time, loved to BBQ, have friends over and then was over the moon when Stacey came along. You girls were everythig to her, you were her life. I always marveld at how she could be a Mom and a teacher. She was very inspirational to me and always gave me good advice when my girls came along.
I know you will miss her dearly and I send you both lots of love and hugs. May her memory be a blessing.
Love Randi

Thank you for everything Aunt Tobie. My favorite memory together was our "synchronized swimming" -- which mostly consisted of waving around pool noodles and humming the Nutcracker suite off-key. I loved your spirit, your warmth, and your sense of humor. You will be sorely missed.

Tobie and I wove in and out of our lives thru out the years, from EMHS to Ohio U to RI/Conn . We reconnected in Golden and went for many walks , never at a loss for conversation and laughs . I will miss her matter of fact, down to earth, fun loving, commonsensical demeanor. My heart goes out to her close knit family and will miss her dearly .. Amy Shenk
