I remember Izzy from Franklin Furniture back when I worked for my in-laws, Bob & Edythe Sigman at Broadway Sales. Later, when we started the Jewish Children's Adoption Network, Izzy was a strong supporter. I am sure that his neshama is now in a good place,a link in the chain of eternal life.

I grew up just a few houses down the block from Izzy's home on 1st and Forest. The time we spent talking fishing as a child and about life in general was invaluable to me as young adult. His personal story was nothing short of fascinating and his humble approach to his successes and exploits were emblematic of his nature. He was sharp as a tack and would joke with me about how long it took me to return his copy of Catch-22 that he loaned me in high school. Running into him at DU was a regular pleasure. He was always ready to have a quick chat or to just say hello as the years went on and when I came back to Colorado for a visit. May his memory be a blessing.

We remember Iz's warmth and generous spirit. We knew him at Rodef Shalom. His grandson is a lifelong friend of our son-in-law, Craig Eisen. Iz always remembered the connection and it made us feel like we were family. May his memory be a blessing.

I knew and understood Izzy for fifty years. He was a unique individual; kind, generous of spirit and money, smart, thoughtful and very strong in his beliefs. He would command any thinking person’s profound respect and admiration if given the time and opportunity to know him and hear his story. Izzy had an incredible journey on this earth and very few of his fellow men would have survived as elegantly and as in tact as Izzy. He had to be a very strong and determined young man to ride in that bombardier bubble for as many missions as he flew. At the end of the day, Izzy was as amazed by his own durability as we who knew his details, were as well. I will never forget him and consider it a privilege to have been his friend.

Dear Jerry (and family),
I only met Izzy once or twice in the course of our families doing business together, and that was at the High Point or Dallas markets. But I always felt a kinship as we, along with Leslie Barton and Barbra Wagner, were the furniture families in our class. Like you, my father mentored me in the ways of selling and how to do business. I often wonder how different my life would have been had I stayed in furniture.
I am in awe of his service to the country, and glad he was acknowledged for his courageous actions. It is wonderful that you were able to have him as part of your lives for so many years, and may your memories of him be a blessing to comfort you in the times to come.

Izzy audited a couple of my classes at DU and I got to know him a bit and he was always friendly and engaged. Once I learned from him of his immigrant background, I was able to get him to share his own memories with students in my Jewish immigrant literature course. That was a rare and wonderful experience for students. And when I discovered he was a decorated combat veteran, I urged him to share some of his memories of WWII with my students (and with me--my grandfather was an Army Air Corp vet). May his memory be for a blessing.
