I met Chuck E in 1964 - he was 19 and I was 15. His family moved into a home across the street from mine. He was a legend even then but unlike most legends, knowing him exceeded everything I had heard. I loved his personality and warmth. He had perfect comedic timing. Girls loved him and his true love when I knew him was a beautiful girl who lived across the street from him who, by the way, is still beautiful. Anyone dumb enough to pick a fight with Chuck E or bully a friend of his did so at great peril. But more than anything else, Chuck E was the best and most loyal friend you could ever hope to have. When my parents divorced in 1965 and, ironically, both of them moved out of our house, Chuck E spent countless hours with me. I ate dinner at his home and got to know and love his unforgettable mom and dad. The following summer my older brother died in a small plane crash and more than anyone else Chuck E was there for me. We were roommates at CU in 1969. I remember with fondness a great many Chuck E Weiss stories. Chuck E’s in Love helps to shape his legend but Chuck E was loved is how I will remember him. To his family and many friends, I offer my deepest condolences. May his memory be a blessing.
