It has been devastating to learn about Stacy's death and I send my deepest condolences to her entire family. Stacy was a good friend to me while an undergraduate at Stanford (we lived together in Casa Italiana) and, as a fellow Coloradan, we had the opportunity to meet up in Denver from time to time. She was so brilliant and insightful - and made everything around her better. I will never forget her.

Stacy was one of the brightest, warmest, and high-energy people at Stanford Law School. Even though I was a year behind her, she also made an effort to reach out to me and her colleagues. She walked the halls making SLS a better place. Over the years, we lost touch but I continued to follow her on Facebook. When I would receive a Facebook feed update from Stacy's life, I'd always think, "Gosh - what is Stacy up to? She was always such a kind person at Stanford." Even the people who didnt know her that well, she left a positive imprint on this world. .

I went to Stanford undergrad with Stacy - we moved to DC at the same time after graduation. We were having dinner in summer 2007 when I got a call telling me my father had been in a bike accident. She was such a calm and supportive presence, in that moment of great uncertainty about what would happen next. She will be missed.

The world has lost a wonderful and bright light in Stacy. I was a high school classmate and remember a brilliant, engaged, and unfailingly positive person. She was the kind of person who could truly accomplish anything. Behind her immense smarts was a kind and earnest soul. She was truly in a league of her own.

Dear Cindy, Neil, Marci, and Stephanie,
The tragic news of Stacy’s passing has left me heartbroken. I met her when she was a student at the Stanford in Florence Program in 2005 and we stayed in touch and saw each other on her return trips to Italy. She loved Florence and it held a very special place in her heart. Stacy was whip smart, witty, kind, with a radiant and contagious smile, and just so much fun to be around. The last time I saw her was in Florence in 2014. She was in Milan for work and was able to come down for a quick weekend visit. We went out for a drink and talked about the work she was doing and how happy she was at her firm and in Chicago. I remember thinking then, just as I had when she was a Stanford undergrad, how poised she was to do truly amazing things.
We were all touched by Stacy and I feel blessed to have known her.
I am holding you close to my heart during this difficult time.
Hugs,
Fosca

Having a daughter only one year younger than Stacy & who attended Cherry Creek schools also, I can't even fathom your pain. My Heart, Prayers & Hopes are with the whole Pepper family and friends. Dear Pepper family,
The awful news reached us in Italy as well. At Stanford in Florence, we mourn Stacy’s loss but cherish the wonderful memory of an extremely bright, lively and beautiful young woman who was always kind, cheerful and a key member of our closely-knit Stanford community in Italy. She was one of those rare shining stars who left a lasting memory in all of us, her Stanford peers, her Italian friends (which included my son), all the staff and the faculty at the Program.
She spent two quarters at Stanford in Florence and took two film classes with me. She submitted her final papers all in Italian! As a Political Science major, she also took a course on the European Union, as well as a class devoted to the quality of democracy. While the two main areas to which she devoted her attention were Communication and Political Science, she also found the time to study and appreciate Renaissance Art History.
At a formal conference in Paris, where many Stanford Programs (and faculty and students) came together to discuss EU-US relations, she was one of the few spokespeople for our Center and gave an absolutely brilliant talk on the EU, its Constitution and its challenges. Already then, her skill and confidence were such that she performed more like a graduate student than a junior in college. Her subsequent career in law and her successes never came as a surprise to me.
She was a traveling scholar (DC, Florence, London to name but a few), and she was a joyful and wonderful human being. She was always in a good mood and so full of life and of grace.
All of us at Stanford in Florence express our most deeply felt condolences to everyone in Stacy’s family as well as to all those who knew and loved her. We will light a bright candle for her in Florence.

Dear Pepper family,
Stacy and I were friends from law school -- she was actually one of the first people I met on our first day of orientation at SLS (nearly 13 years ago now!). I had only been to campus very briefly before that first day, and Stacy was so warm and kind and took the time to show me around -- Stacy always made it so easy to be her friend. After law school, I stayed in Silicon Valley while she moved to Chicago, but we kept in touch at friends' weddings and reunions and we even got to co-counsel a case together from separate firms. I had been so happy to spend more time together and reconnect when she moved back to San Francisco.
I have many treasured memories with Stacy over the years, but over the past few days I keep coming back to one wonderful dinner we had together in San Francisco a couple of years ago. We had reservations at a cool new sushi place after work on a weeknight, but we both ended up working late at our respective law firms and when we finally showed up almost two hours late for our reservation, the unhappy hostess made it clear we would not be dining with them that night. It was late and it was damp and "San Francisco cold" and we were starving and addled from long days at the office. As we walked down the street toward nowhere in particular, I remembered that my favorite Italian restaurant was only a couple of blocks away. I thought there was no way we would get in without a reservation, but Stacy was always the optimist and insisted it was worth a shot. And of course -- lucky us -- there were two seats at the bar and the hostess promised us they would still make us food despite the late hour. We drank red wine and ate delicious food and talked and laughed until it was late enough that the bartender had to unlock the front door to let us out. I wish now I remembered more about what we talked about, but I have a feeling it was the typical stuff -- catching up and me unloading my problems and worries and Stacy listening patiently, giving her wise and thoughtful advice, and cheering me on as she always did.
I am heartbroken about this tragedy. I am thinking of you and Stacy through this terrible time.
Yours,
Jessica Spradling Kelman

We are still struggling to process this unexpected and unfathomable loss. I first got to know Stacy through her sister (my dear college friend Marci), but then later also got to know her better through mutual friends in San Francisco. Whether running into Stacy at a house party or going tubing together down the Russian River, she was always so friendly, curious, thoughtful, and kind. She was extremely humble and would always try to focus the conversation on others, and was quick to offer warm encouragement and support. We will miss her great spirit, and send our deepest condolences and lots of love to the Pepper family. -Annie and Brad Heller

Please accept my deepest condolences on your loss. I had the good fortune to work with Stacy as co-counsel on several cases. She was an incredibly talented and skilled lawyer. As the father of daughters, she seemed to me to be what you would hope your daughters would grow up to be. May her memory be a blessing.

My family and I are deeply sorry and offer our heartfelt condolences for your family's tragic and incomprehensible loss. I was privileged to work with Stacy over the past five years as co-defense counsel in a large group of complex cases. Stacy was highly skilled and effective, and performed key roles in these cases with judgment and quiet leadership far beyond her years. She earned our complete confidence as co-defense counsel, and the respect of the Court and opposing counsel. There is much to celebrate about Stacy’s life beyond her work as a litigator, and we trust that family and friends will do so in due course. Please know that her professional colleague hold Stacy in the highest regard, and will celebrate and treasure the time we shared working together.

I worked with Stacy at Sidley Austin and am so sorry to hear of her passing. She was such a shining light and just a wonderful associate at our firm. I remember her as always smiling and upbeat, someone you just wanted to be around. We didn't work together on any cases, but she went out of her way to get to know me anyway, just as she did for so many others. When I was promoted to partner, she was one of the first people to congratulate me, because that's how she was, always happy for someone else's success. I'll never forget that. A truly wonderful person.
My deepest sympathies to Stacy's family.

Stacy and I worked together at Kirkland, though in different practices. We were both transplants to the San Francisco office- she from Chicago, me from D.C.- and trying to make our way in a new office and a new city. We hit it off at a work happy hour, and became friends inside and outside of the office- often sharing crazy dating stories. The last time I saw her was at my baby shower in February 2020, where she gifted my daughter the most adorable dress. She was also supposed to host what would have been my last social outing pre-baby - a pie party on 3.14.20- but the pandemic sadly forced cancellation of that. From our conversations, I learned how close she was with her family, and I am glad she was able to spend extended time in the Denver area over the last year. Stacy was a shining star within the firm, and as a friend, and she will be deeply missed.

I was so sorry when I heard about Stacy's passing. I knew Stacy from her time at Sidley Austin in Chicago, and I and countless others here have fond memories of her. We first met when we were paired together at a poker event for summer associates -- Stacy and I were aggressive and flamed out early in the competition, but we had a great time together!
Stacy was full of energy and warmth and always took an interest in the well-being of others.
My heartfelt condolences go out to Stacy's family. She will be sorely missed.

It's hard to believe that Stacy is gone. She and I were friends in Law School, and while we didn't keep in touch as much as I would have liked, I enjoyed spending time with her in Chicago when I was there for a work trip, and in San Francisco after she moved here. I always admired her positivity, energy, thoughtfulness, clear sense of who she was and what she wanted, and logical way of thinking. She was incredibly smart, and was kind with others when she disagreed with them. Before Covid, she and I had been trading emails and texts to get together, and when life got busy, we put that aside. I regret not having kept in better touch with her. She won't be forgotten. Love, Jennifer (Cain) Brown
