Obituary of Jay Scott Greenstein
It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Jay Scott Greenstein, 74, of Denver, Colorado on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. Jay passed while at home with his loving wife, Kathe Greenstein.
Jay was born May 19, 1948 in Boston, Massachusetts to Morris Greenstein and Helen Lipman.
Jay, known to his family and friends as “Dr. Jay", grew up in Boston Massachusetts where he graduated high school from Boston Latin School in 1966. Jay completed his bachelors degree at University of Massachusetts and earned his doctorate at the New England College of Optometry.
Jay started practicing in Denver Colorado in 1977. He was known for his enduring passion to help others by giving of his time and talents, through various charitable organizations to provide medical care and services to those in need.
Jay had a natural wit that brought levity to any situation. His humor was uplifting and contagious, which he managed to maintain his entire life.
Jay had a zest for travel that took him all over the world, where he garnered a myriad of rich and meaningful cultural experiences and friends that helped shape the man he became. He was an avid skier and snowboarder, and would frequently be found on the slopes, enjoying the grandeur of the Colorado mountains. This passion was shared with his family and was instrumental in creating a similar zeal within them.
Jay’s greatest passion was playing guitar, and nothing made him happier than getting together with friends and family to “jam” in the basement, backyard or anywhere the opportunity presented itself. His love of music and his desire to share it with others led him to play at assisted living facilities in his free time, for many years, bringing joy to the residents.
Jay, is survived by his wife, Kathe, his stepchildren: daughter, Yvette Pentland, and son, James Iannaccone (Marcy Tarango) and step grandchildren: Sarek and Kira Iannaccone, Nolan Shipman, Coleton and Landon Pentland, Louie and Savannah Rivera. As well as his sister, Vivian Stern and family.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Helen, and son-in-law, Tony Pentland.
