To Nancy and boys; Carolyn and Sharon, Although I haven’t seen Gary for a number of years, I have such fond memories of his growing-up years. His mother, Martha, was the sister of my husband, Eldon. Even as a child, he was a “gentle giant”, big for his age, but always kind and humble to all the cousins. Many happy memories of time spent at the Buchanan “farm” at the edge of Kingman. Growing up I was in awe of Cousin Gary. I have many fun memories of trips to Kingman when all the cousins would gather. Gary was one of my all-time favorite people and I once made a heartfelt plea to my parents that he should come home to Kansas City and live with us. :-) Nancy, I am so sad that you have lost Gary so young. We are so sad and sorry to hear about Gary’s passing, he was a wonderful man who had a great wife and two incredible sons! Gary and Nancy were our neighbors, for approximately 20 years. When we moved into our house the whole family welcomed us with open arms. After they moved we lost touch but Gary will never be forgotten! Gary is seen here kneeling next to me. Gary was larger than life to me and always quick to protect me from bullies in the neighborhood. I, like so many growing up saw Gary as a protector. He was my brother's best friend and he was my giant. I am sad that wonderful world which Gary was at the heart of is almost all gone. I love you Gary and know you are a protector in Heaven now.

I played sports with Gary in high school, and did we ever have a lot of fun. Before and after practice, riding the bus, the games, and the meets were all a ton of fun with Gary. And, yes, we was a great athlete (maybe Kingman's GOAT as they say), but he wasn't a "jock." He was't loud or aggressive or an "in your face" type, and I never-ever heard him boast. He was a fun-loving, great guy to be around, and like this obituary revealed, he had a breadth of personality and character. My condolences to you, Nancy, and your family. And, I just want you all to know that there's a bunch of old teammates that saw Gary win a ton of gold medals who always considered him a gold medal type of guy. Thinking of you all, Casey Jones.

I remember Gary back in High School...He was bigger than life back then and sure now. He Married a pretty girl from Kingman Nancy. Great memories and so sorry for your loss. Prayers being sent.
