Obituary of Jeanne Kaplan
Jeanne Kaplan of Denver died peacefully Saturday after a valiant battle against cancer. Born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio, to Sophie and Morris Slavin, she found her way to the University of Michigan for her undergraduate degree. Upon graduation, Jeanne found herself in Boston to start her career and ended up in Washington DC working for CBS News which led to meeting the love of her life, Steve Kaplan. They married in 1976 and moved immediately to Denver to enjoy the outdoor lifestyle and support her love for skiing.
Jeanne and Steve started their family in 1980 with their daughter Leslie and then welcomed Michael two years later. While raising her family, Jeanne found her passion for and became a relentless advocate of public education leading her to serve two terms on the Denver Public School board of education.
She will be remembered for her quick wit, her love of the color red, her love for her family, and the wonderful music she shared as an accomplished pianist.
Jeanne is survived by her husband Stephen Kaplan. She is the loving mother of Leslie (Joe Heitkamp) Kaplan and Michael (Alexandra Woods) Kaplan and adoring grandmother of Sammy & Sophie Heitkamp, Morris & Zev Kaplan;
