There's a group of us who met Ruth through her best friend, Kae Riggs, our supervisor at Kaiser Regional Laboratory. I came to know Ruth a bit more through visits with her and through phone calls wherein we not only check up on how each of us are, but also talked about different things, including what may be in the news. Ruth became a confidante and a friend. i will always remember Ruth as a scholarly advisor, always mentally sharp, possessing a great sense of humor. These, I will sorely miss. Thank you, Ruth, for your friendship and advice throughout the years. May you always have safe journeys. Rest in peace.

Just learned of Ruth's passing. I worked with her at LAUSD serving on some of her committees. She was a smart and witty woman whom I enjoyed. My son shared the same birthday. Really, she was one of a kind.

I got to know Ruth later in her life, but considered her a friend. I enjoyed visiting with her and hearing stories about her life in Denver and California. She will be missed!

Ruth was truly a genius! She was an irreplaceable leader, researcher, writer, grant writer, speaker, and encourager. I was so fortunate to be chosen to work for her at the DARE to Read newsletter and as a health education advisor. There were so many opportunities to present at conferences and at schools. Ruth made sure that I enrolled in a master’s degree program for future growth. She even proofread my admission forms! After Ruth retired, I enjoyed visiting her at her lovely place in Dana Point. She stayed sharp, witty, and fun to be around. She invited me to a fabulous birthday party in Denver for her and her sister Eileen. Her wonderful sister Sheila planned and organized a memorable event. Dr. Ruth Rich was one of a kind. She will always have a special place in my heart.

Ruth and my mother Janelle Haworth (Munn) knew each other as classmates and close friends at the University of Northern Colorado. They spent much time together year-round during their college years ... in Greeley and Estes Park (during summers). They went their separate ways and each earned an advanced university degree. Then, 15 years later, they encountered each other in the parking lot at the main office of the Los Angeles Unified School District - and discovered that they were colleagues at LAUSD. So, they renewed their friendship and for the next 45 years they enjoyed sharing celebrations, special events and wonderful times together. Ruth outlived my mother by 15 years and I was glad to correspond with her as she shared so much about her remarkable life and memories of my mother. Ruth was a study in scholarship and service to others. I will miss her.

Ruthie, you were a wonderful sister and daughter to our mama! You provided many experiences to and for me that I will never forget like buying me my first dog, Troubles, my first two Wheel Bicycle, visiting me and taking me touring while I studied in Mexico, giving me the down payment for my first condo! Besides these, you always gave me good advice and counsel straight from your heart! Thank you for being my sister! May your memory be a blessing to all knew you!
