Obituary of Dr. Alan Jon Levine
Dr. Alan Jon Levine, born April 19, 1942, died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on January 28, 2024.
After growing up on Long Island, NY, Alan earned his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Rochester. He devoted four decades to his work as a child psychiatrist. Helping children and adolescents struggling with ADHD and ADD was where he was most passionate, and the mental health support he gave all his patients gave him great satisfaction. He was an accomplished, yet humble man. Alan was a caring and compassionate doctor, loved and admired by everyone.
Alan loved the outdoors, extensively exploring Colorado - his home for more than 50 years - and all corners of the world. His interests and hobbies included fishing, tennis, snorkeling, classic cars, sailing, bird watching/ battling squirrels, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was known for his dry sense of humor and thorough research about everything that sparked his curiosity.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Leslie Oxman Levine; his three children - Sara Levine Visser (Klaas), Allyson Levine (Dr. Adam Burstein), and Becca Levine (Liz Joynt Sandberg); and grandchildren Nina Visser, Eliza and Lyla Burstein, and Ida and Mimi Joynt Sandberg; his sister Joan Levine and extended family. He is preceded in death by his brother, Michael Levine.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday January 30th, 11:00am MST, Mt. Nebo Memorial Park; livestream on the Feldman Mortuary YouTube channel.
To honor Alan's memory, please consider donating in his name to a charity of your choice. One of his favorites was focused on music education and social change: Playing for Change Foundation - playingforchange.org.
