Obituary of Stanley Jolton
Stanley M. Jolton, of Denver, Colorado, passed away on June 9, 2024 at his Denver residence, with family at his bedside.
Born in New York City on June 3, 1928, and raised in Lamar, Colorado, Stanley was the son of the late Jerome and Sara (Weiser) Jolton. Stan graduated from the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, NM in 1948 and then, as an ROTC officer candidate, earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Colorado in 1950. He then served in the Army leading a tank platoon for the 64th Tank Division, 3rd Artillery Unit. Upon return from serving in the Korean War, where he earned two bronze service stars, Stan, began working in fashion retail, having grown up in the business.
In 1958, he married Eva R. Kay and settled in Whittier, California before returning to Denver in 1960 to work as buyer for Fashion Bar. He then moved into major retail department stores as a divisional merchandise manager for May D&F. He rose through the ranks and served as a retail executive for Federated (Goldsmiths in Memphis, Rhodes in Phoenix) and Associated Dry Goods (Powers in Minneapolis), before becoming president of T. A. Chapman’s in Milwaukee, WI in 1977, which he later acquired and became owner of in 1984. In 1990 he sat for his commercial real estate license and began a second career in retail leasing, first on behalf of J.H. Collectables, and then for Polacheck/CBRE until his retirement in 2020.
Stan loved to play tennis, golf, ski, ride horses, and sail with his friends on Lake Michigan. He enjoyed the Milwaukee Symphony,local theater, and volunteering, including serving on the board of Congregation Sinai in Milwaukee.
In addition to his parents, Stan was predeceased by his wife Eva, brother Robert “Bob” Jolton and brother-in-law Conrad “Casey” Kay.
Stan is survived by his children Joseph (Carolyn) of Golden Valley, MN, Michael (Lisa) of Denver, CO, and Jeffrey (Marcy) of Getzville, NY; grandchildren, Jacob (Sam), Rey, Jared, Adam (Kelsey), Ryan, Edward (Ivy), and Joshua; sister-in-law, Judith Jolton as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service honoring Stan will be held at Mt. Nebo Cemetery on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at 1 p.m. Livestream available on Feldman Mortuary's YouTube channel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Congregation Sinai in Fox Point, WI or to the New Mexico Military Institute Foundation.
